hiya,
Norm knew all about the Batley club from other drivers, but always overnighted in Leeds when down that way, my sister now deceased lived there and would rather give my nieces and nephews the night out money, but my driving took me mainly up north in my last few years and that suited me fine had some good nights out in the Barrow’s in Glasgow in my younger days though was single then though.

Harry I used to love the clubs in the north of england, I saw some good headliners, it is a shame times have changed. Today I went passed a Bus with a advert on it asking for drivers to apply, at £400 per week, when I done it, it was £10 with overtime that made it over twenty in 1960, the perks was the conductoresses.
hiya,
Once saw a topliner namely Barbara Dickson in the Caterpillar tractor club south of Glasgow for the princely sum of 10 pence cover charge, she had hit the big time and i thought she was a brilliant artiste, she was just completing the bookings she had taken when she was an unknown which she did’nt need to do but she gave a full show and somebody said her take home money would have been about 25 quid, used to have private digs close by and they was top notch.

I have met and spoken to a few nice artist, Russ abbot was a funny chap, Frank Highfield was a great chap met him at relations in Coventry at a party, we chatted into the early morming, then he sang " I remember Youuu", do you think he was getting at me!
hiya,
“Norman friend of the stars Ingram” if we ever meet up will i have to doff my cap and call you sir??, my only claim to fame was to be about a yard away from the Queen when she opened the Kielder reservoir in Northumberland still don’t know why i was invited, it was like a schoolkids outing bottle of pop and a packed lunch, if i’d known i’d have volunteered to hold the fort back at base.

Ho Harry, I have some lovly photo’s of Princess Dianne when she opened the hospice " Spencer " where you go to spend your final days, usually two weeks, it is only across the road from me, been to visit two of my mates there, it is a good place, they look after them well, but you know when they go in to there, it is the last place.
hiya,
At least your brush with royalty was optional, my brush was more a part of rent a crowd.

Does anyone remember The Church at Islington,London?
When I was driving at Humber McVeigh’s,we used to meet up there,a guy called Roy used to be there so often we called him The Vicar!
There was lass that used to sit on the bar and pick up a coin under her dress,no hands if you get what I mean,no knickers either,I heard she could also do the same with a ping pong ball!!!
Great days,
David

hiya,
Never came across that one 5thwheel, and i always used private digs in the Islington area must have led a sheltered life, I must have gotten myself drunk in every pub in the Caledonian/Holloway road area over the years, did quite a bit of time in the ■■■■ at Highbury and used to have a pint with Arthur Mullard in that one, i think it was his second home was on first name terms with the lad and he was a real nice chap.

Tell you Harry that is a new one on me as well, been in loads of pubs in sevensisters road, and around liverpool street, but that don’t ring a bell.

hiya,
Tell you what Norm i was always in some pub or other in that area my long term digs were in Lonsdale Square between Liverpool St and the Caledionian Rd the digs was only B and B so i used an Italian cafe “not a posh restaurant” at the Holloway gaol end of York Way before going round the digs to get ready for the nights entertainment usually finishing up legless, if i’d ever got pulled driving off in the morning they would have locked me up and thrown away the key, happy days.

I had some goodnights out in London, but always prefered north of england, Lanc’s, Yorkshire, Newcastle, probaly your money went further, also the women
hiya,
Now Norm what are you insinuating, Northern ladies are a bit easy as opposed to Southern belles, well good buddy i personally would’nt know having led a very blameless and sheltered life as was the way of things when i was up and down the roads, early to bed and early to rise was my motto and believe it or not i stuck religiously to that way of life throughout my driving career, so endeth the sermon.

Woul I do a thing like that Harry
Oh no I ment they are more friendly
I wonder if the club in Great Yarmouth is still going , it used to have country & western music Harry, but like most things nothing stays the same, it used to be oppisite the place where the pleasure centre is now.

Smallcoal I remember the pub in swindon, in the early 90’s I remember seeing a blueline wagon parked up & a wirery dark haired chap with tatoo’s getting dressed to meet a bird, I won’t say what I was up to, might get in trouble.
hiya,
Tell you what you guys i must have been the only driver who did any work you lot was forever pubbing and clubbing, i was always too knackered to have fun having done a proper day’s graft, if I ever return to the daft game things will be different.
thanks harry long retired.
Harry you was to afraid to go out to these places, in case you ended up married too many times.
hiya,
Yes Norm being just too georgeous can have it’s drawbacks.
