1am tonight everyone clocks go forward 1 whole hour. So we all lose an hour of beauty sleep
Bugger! I’d forgotten all about it today
Not that we need much beauty sleep, of course!
If you’re away, don’t forget to change the tacho clock as you put the morning’s chart in.
If your truck’s parked up and you’re away from it, don’t forget to do it Monday morning.
Now i’m expecting a few of you may have some fun doing that. Good luck
Tip: some casette type analogue tachos need the blank disc removing from the driver 2 position before it will change the time. (It may change the display time, but won’t change the recorded time). It’s a good idea to stick a blank chart in for a few minutes to check it.
Haven’t driven digi for a while now so kinda lost touch there so sorry guys, no tips. Are we now coming INTO line with UTC time or out of it? Either way, i guess its a legal requirement to change the display time.
they go forward unless you work for a large blue and white container firm, who sent my brother and i guess all his colleagues a letter saying they go back an hour!
i can imagine there may be a few trucks a little late monday!
I never used to be able to remember which way when until i heard:
Spring forward in the Spring, fall back in the Fall.
You can change the time shown on this board by clicking - User control panel - Board preferences - and then click the Summer Time/DST is in effect: ‘Yes’ circlular tab

out of line with UTC on a digi tacho you can only change the displayed time, it will still record in UTC . AFAIK there’s no legal requirement to change it anyway.
these digital tachographs are a piece of ill thought rubbish that money could possibly be wasted on.
They don’t add up your driving time correctly.
They don’t automatically adjust the time like the previous ones did.
How can something as crap as a digital tacho be used for enforcement, when everyone knows they are inaccurate?

im sure limeyphil, there are threads in this forum somewhere, this subject has been discussed at length on many an occasion.for me,i think digi tachos are grossly inaccurate, and i dont think it will take a hugely competent solicitor to prove otherwise.with the new vosa rules/laws/guidelines/goalposts on wheels coming into force on 1st april,it wont be too long before court cases are jostling for hearings.
so question.
do we have to adjust the digi tacho time,or just leave it be and adjust the dash clock?.

You can’t adjust a digi tach time. All you can actually adjust is the display time. This sort of ■■■■■up my requirement to make sure my tacho matches my time sheet
There was or is a requirement for the truck to display the time from its country of origin, so when i drove foreign registered trucks in the UK on UK work they where always showing an hours difference. The digitach appears exempt from this requirement, largely i suspect because it cannot be changed. And its been designed so it cannot be changed. That leaves US with a bit of a problem.

Hi Mike
you can adjust the time local time up or down in 30 minute intervals for the BST and GMT,
and you can adjust the UTC time by 1 min per week up or down
The local time can be adjusted in increments
of 30 minutes.
The UTC time may deviate by
±1 minute per week in the VU.
It can therefore be corrected by
±1 minute once a week.
If the UTC time in the VU has deviated
by more than 20 minutes, the
VU must be recalibrated by a specialist
workshop for tachographs.

Thats what i mean, you can set the display to what time you like. You cannot alter its UTC time, well by a minute a week you can. We are in GMT that leaves you with a unit not recording in real time, well to us in the UK.
UTC time is more or less corresponds to
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
The UTC time is not adjusted for
summer/winter time.
so for instance if you are in finland the UTC time would be 8 pm and the local time would be 11 pm so we as in UK don’t have it to bad only one hour for BST. but 3 hours in Finland
If the digi tachos record in UTC do wheel tappers use common sence if your digi card says you started at 3am (night shift R&R’s) when you acutally started a 4am (day time regs)
I very rarely start at 4am, normally a bit later but today for example i had a truck that was one our behind. it as 4 am but tacho said 3am, i’m not cluded up on the night time R&R’s how would it affect a day guy like me. Some of our digi trucks have the correct display time and some dont, but someone said it still records in UTC regarless so how does that stand with VOSA if going by the records you only seemed to have 8 hour rest when infact you had 9? if like me you drive analouge and digi. if that made any sense to anyone i’d be amazed.
sorry if this has been beaten to death before
but just something i have always wondered.

Hi pecjam23
UTC time is more or less corresponds to
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
if you got in to a truck at 4 am this week say Monday and it said 3 am as you start time you could put a note on the print out to say British summer time for that day only the rest ofthe time in british summer time you will be OK as vosa no about UTC.
the truck you used as not had the local time changed by the sounds of it
there say that its best to leave at UTC
the only thing i would say if you drive an analogue tacho in the same as a digi card be careful to remember the times would look out by one hour on the digi one as the analogue would be set at the local time
How many of you have a truck running with local time now matching UTC timeâ– â– ?
Discovered mine is today and another at the depot have been set wrong, Guess someone at Fraikin/Pelican is going to get there hands slapped.
