Cleator moor in cumbria

On monday morning i have to be in a tiny village cleator near Egremont in ■■■■■■■ post code CA23 3DJ. i’ll be travelling from Skipton and as far as i can see i have three main choices.

  1. Barrow in burness and up the A595
  2. Penrith and across A66 to cockermouth and down the A5086
  3. Carlisle and down A595 to whitehaven

I’ll be driving an artic and i doubt that any of these routes are very truck friendly.

id go for number 2 cause im immature and cockermouth is funny as hell for a name

If it was me I would go for route number 2
number 3 — to long.( coming from the south )
number 1 — not the best of route for an artic , it’s a while since i’ve been on this road but i remember thinking WTF did i come this way.

Deffo No2. Once you get to Cockermouth roundabout hang a left, this road brings you out in the centre of Cleator Moor.

Not too bad a road and fine for a artic.

thanks everyone, number it is.

So you don’t miss your turning, take the first left at the Sheep and wool centre on the roundabout, then head down past Paddle School

number 2,

i used to deliver to the garage / shop there in an artic

stevie

Used to go to Egremont this way in an artic, when I got bored of going through Whitehaven on the A595.

Ken.

back in the late 70’s I used to deliver to a place in Cleator Moor with an artic, I was usually going there after delivering in Barrow-in Furness and overnighting in Millom so was approaching it on the A595 past Muncaster Castle. After tipping I got back to the M6 via A66 to Carlisle to go back south. As you are approaching from Skipton I would say that No 2 is favourite, both routes were ok for an artic back then and I can’t see that the roads round there would have changed that much since. Lovely scenery round there if it isn’t too misty, which it can be, even in summertime.

Number 2 is gets my vote, up there a few weeks ago there building a bypass turning the single road into a dual carriage on the A595/A66 turn off to whitehaven
so there been a lot of delays, but when its finished it may be the faster route.

yup, i thought just the same… and i was in the car!!!

Having loaded at a house in Egremont a few years ago with a 7.5 tonner for a move to Nr Carcassonne, France, i definately go with the flow of route no. 2.

(+ quite good food at truckstop A66/M6 junction)

Number 2 is the easiest route. I’ve got family that live about 3 miles outside of Cleator Moor. Thats the way I always go. Where have you got to go in Cleator anyways ?

i don’t know yet. until i get to work i’ve only got a postcode but on google earth it looks like a large factory or warehouse then i’m going up to belshill.
