Flat out down the M1 to jc 25 spin her back up to 26 vwalah roof clear

take it under a bridge that is only just taller than the trailer

whoosh

job done

Has there been a case where a driver has been either prosecuted or made to clear it by the authorities ?

Best way to do it is use rope with a 2 by 4 piece of wood tied in the middle, fling rope over trailer wood on roof of trailer but u need 2 people for this and pull on rope back an forth till its clear

This. Once pulled a tilt from Hull docks which had been there all over Xmas and when I got to the other end, found there was a massive slab of ice in the sag in the roof. Got forkie at the place to help shove it off. It landed with a hell of a bang. I hate to think how heavy it was.

This is one of those elephants in the room that nobody seems to be noticing.

You see massive piles of big chunks of shattered ice at turns & braking points, I saw one pile the other day that had landed just about where you’d expect a young mum to place a pram whilst waiting to cross the road !

Caught between a rock and a hard place on this issue,if you get up on the trailer roof its a health & safety breach.Drive down the road and a lump of snow or ice comes off and hits someone etc you are in trouble.Tricky one !

FFS!

From what I’ve seen, that would be pushed out onto the road while the Mum is safely on the kerb! :unamused:

you can ignore it but problem is when it hits something or the law see it they will pull you up …

The fibreglass roofs on the tat we pull about are so wobbly I simply walk along inside with a broom and run it along the middle of the roof inbetween the supports and it loosens it enough that a swing around the yard cleans it off.

If fully loaded to the roof though, it’s a bit tougher!

They can be quite funny about it in Canada and the US. Quite a lot of companies and DOT scales have roof scrapers that you drive just under with your trailer and then drop the blade down on to the roof and drive forward. Either that or they have a set of gantries that you climb up and then use big aluminium shovel/pusher type things to push the snow off.

I was following a friend of mine through Romania when he stopped suddenly, ice on his trailer roof had shot forward when he braked heavily, causing the ice to shear all of his suzie’s & put a massive dent in his cab roof, I just had to change my underpants. :exclamation:
Be warned ice or snow on your roof can be a killer.

Dave.

We often get calls from MOP’s “There’s lots of glass across the c/way” We know it’s going to be ice from the tops of HGV’s, and 99/100 it’ll be crushed to water by the time our patrol / police patrol can check it, but we have to check, one of these days it’ll be a glazers van lost a window!
