Hello
Commercial Motor contributor here. I’m looking into clearance houses and whether or not they are becoming more popular among owners and fleet operators.
Who do you use? Who do you make sure you don’t use?
And have the rates moved at all in the last year or so?
I won’t use anything you post here without asking, and I may also get in touch directly if I need to find out anything more.
Thank you very much.

Hi Truckwriter,
A fair topic, and it’s one that I’m sure will generate some reactions.
Without wishing to rain on your parade…
There are probably going to be some negative reactions, “company XYZ didn’t pay me etc” which is unverifiable and very one-sided, so could posters please think about doing those by PM because of the rules on defamation. Such posts posted publicly may have to be removed.
There are two sides to every story.
In order that the site admins are not forced into performing their Barbra Streisand impressions, please feel free to PM me any details that you wish. Thanks very much.

If Truckwriter is asking about clearance houses, freight forwarders etc, and a member has had an experience where he didn’t get paid for the work he did by Company XYZ then I think it’s fair enough that the member says his thing. It certainly doesn’t come within a million miles of “defamation” to say that Company XYZ didn’t pay you for work you did for them when they should have paid you for work you did for them.
But as I’ve said before, “By drivers, for drivers”, my arse.

Is it? how do you or I know that a “real” experience, or just a guy with a grudge or a school boy who thinks its funny to post BS, If people are willing to show what they post on an anonymous internet forum is true then it can stay… otherwise it goes
Its not difficult, if your going make any allegations against any company- send us some proof and you can post away all day long, if your not willing to do that then don’t post.
Simples even for the most simple person
OK, Rikki’s right, but if anyone hasn’t now been scared off saying anything then you could just say why you use clearance houses and what the rates have done (if anything) in the last year or so. And also if you get the impression they are becoming more popular among hauliers. No need to name names. Publicly.
Thanks again.
heres one for you, one of my trucks was quiet, and ive been nearly begged to put one of my trucks with a freight forwarder, so i thought lets have a gamble and see what we get for 2days work
we are base mansfield, day one thursday, load nottingham 2.5hrs loading for stratford 1.5hrs tipping, then load warwick about 1hrs (so not bad) for magor, tip magnor driver on about 13hr day ish + night out, day 2 friday, load chepstow 1.5hrs loading to mansfield 2hrs unloading
then told no waiting time is payed until 2 to 3 hrs and only if you have proof, and then if your luck you might just get something lol
answers on a post card for what this payed
Seeing as how it was all for one firm I’d want £450 per day for a 4 wheeler or £550 for artic for that run .
£550 for artic for that run
that for the run or per day
Per day ,I guess they wanted to pay that for the lot?

Per day ,I guess they wanted to pay that for the lot?
£634 the lot
So… thinking that I would have had a price before I started is that to obvious…

heres the clue
so i thought lets have a gamble
was email the prices but didnt see them till later on as i was to busy
over the week the truck made some good money thanks to my work m/t/w/ but thursday/friday broke even
told 7 day payment, but since telling them there not having the truck again, they have tried to change payment terms to 30 days month end lol i think not payment due monday on our terms of 30 days, if its not paid then a late payment will be charged and sent tuesday
Well they are your trucks so you can gamble when you want…But you don’t need trucks for this try bookies on a Saturday afternoon…
Si How much would you have preferred and how much were you expecting ?

Good luck, if it’s who I think it is…and, you will need to be on your toes when it is due, as they like to play the “it’s in the post” game…and yes, it’s a cheque, not bank transfer…slowing the whole process down even further

i would have thought around £900 ish i try and work the trucks for about £500 per day (ave) as a round figure, but with my own work a good day i get around £700/£860 depending if we ahve a return from one of the factories

i did the bookies, backing burnley last season £10 @ 50/1
bet you didn’t have to wait 30 days for it either…
