I don’t night out, but I would avoid laybys if at all possible if I was. As regards when on a break, no I wouldn’t bother as I would be more interested in stuffing my face, sleeping or playing with my phone and to be honest it would be difficult to summon up the energy to go outside in winter for anything other than watering the grass.
Would I like to spend my break picking up bottles of ■■■■? Would I heck! Fair play ti anyone who does, although I can’t see it being enough to make a difference and even it it was, the local councils would probably end up clearing them up even less often than they already do

Well done that chap , but if everyone did as I do which is either put it in bin provided , or if there’s no bin / full then take it with me and put in first available bin then there would be no need for anyone to do what this chap is doing .
As for picking up other people’s rubbish I’ve never done it from a lay-by but have often put all the left over cups in bin at Rdc canteen , and 20 yrs of picking up after my girl , only this week I spent a solid day washing / cleaning / polishing her car , so I do my bit of tidying up after others , but no not a lay by

This all day long ^^^^^
Though it would help if councils made sure bins were available and emptied them regularly.
Credit to anyone who does that.
I too will get round to it one day, if I ever get my own place tidy first.
David Sedaris, the US author who lives in Sussex did voluntary litter collection big time too. Pity it is necessary.

My 74 year old dad is a volunteer litter picker for our local district council. He often goes out after the recycling lorries have collected, picking up what they have dropped or what has blown away. The council supply him with a gadget so he doesn’t have to bend down. Said gadget is a magnet for the granddaughters, who sometimes go out litter picking with him. They’ve been given pocket money by complete strangers before now, who are impressed with what they are doing.
Way I see it is, on one hand it’s very commendable of the guy to do his bit for the environment, but he shouldn’t have to if the councils done their jobs.
The reason for most of the mess (apart from the dregs who leave it) is all to do with cost cutting by local councils, they either don’t provide bins or if they do, they wait until they overflow (when the damage is done ) before they empty them.
So if everybody did what this lad does, they just wouldn’t bother at all which is just going to make it worse or at least exacerbate the situation.
I ain’t knocking the guy either. I’ve just got mixed feelings about it all.
He’s doing the councils job for them, but he’s not a tenth as bad as those ■■■■ s who try and do the Police’s job for them though.
Until dvsa hand him out a hefty fine for doing other work on break

Nah, surely not… it’s his own time and the work he is doing is voluntary, if they were that pedantic and had nothing else better to do than to try nick him for it… …
‘‘I’m doing it purely for excercise and it’s unpaid’’
What if he’s a council litter picker, picking litter on break ?
Well done Boris

I doubt any council worker is that conscientious!
If he cleans up in one of the lay boys on the A46 near Evesham bring a huge shovel to pick up the huge human ■■■■■ some dirty sod has left in the gutter, stopped for a break there today and just done a walk round check and retighten curtain straps before setting off and there it was sat looking at me , vile
If you gotta go you gotta go but there are other ways then just doing in the gutter.
TRUCKERS CLEANING UP BRITAIN for the Facebookists amongst us. This is their thing. I’m a member and participate, also do it locally at weekends. We have a group in our town and the council supply us with pickers/hi-viz and sacks and collect it when we’re done. As stated above, the council don’t have enough staff. Up here in Scotland the SNP government have starved local authorities of money for years. Our council is facing a £11 million budget gap this year alone. Glad to do my bit

What if a driver plays a virtual reality lorry-driving simulator on break?

Does it include sitting on a virtual bay waiting to be virtually loaded ?
If so, it’s virtually possible while on break.

As I said it should be the councils job end of…
Using funds for this should be in the priority list, not something they can miss off and use and ignore to save cash…they could start by cutting down on their perks of the job for a start,.and maybe a cull amongst non job types.
On other hand good on yer for putting drivers in a positive light for a change,…a good bit of PR, nice one.

It can include that, but his tacho would need to be on break whilst his tacho is on break.

Although he could virtually litter pick the virtual yard.
