I always, unless caught out with circs beyond my control, make the effort to steam clean the vehicle and as much of the chassis/suspension as possible in the time available before submitting the vehicle for inspection or service.
To me it’s the basic common courtesy and respect that the mechanics are due.
Anyone else still do this or is it another dying practice, i ask because i dropped mine off clean and collected one that was ready to go and you’d think it had been on the Beirut to Baghdad night trunk for the last 2 years non stop, disgraceful to expect someone to work on it.
Uncleskid:
Who’s gunna be first to say it’s not my job,it’s bosses wagon it’s only a tool to do a job and other stuff along those lines
Not me, I jet wash mine a few times a week (on other work )
And yup I give it a good scrub before she goes in for her checks or service.
Nope its not my wagon (as in owner) but it is my tool to do my job and I am paid to look after it and paid to do my job.
So if the wagon performs and looks good I class it as good customer service and keeping myself in a job

Well said that man,I don’t spend hours washing and polishing but I keep it to a standard that I’m happy with,it’s not my wagon but I’m the only one who drives it so a little tlc doesn’t go amiss
Keep mine as clean as I can, quick 30 minute jet wash every week & I do the chassis as well if I get the chance to drop the trailer for an hour, so basically it’s ready for inspection most of the time.
I handed my 13 plate down to a Lazy (zb) a few weeks ago & already it looks 2 years older !
Personally unless it is a tipper or other vehicle that is likely to be caked in mud or brick dust, I would rather see it come in dirty, especially if it is a pre MOT Inspection. I want to be able to see if it is leaking oil or fuel which unfortunately steam cleaning often removes all of the evidence. I appreciate the gesture but things have changed and we no longer have auto lube and drivelines that habitually puke oil so that the vehicle stays cleaner anyway.

Here we go again !! When I worked for Richard Long if you didn’t clean your wagon before the occasional weekend at home he would either get one of his farm lackeys or even himself to do it and then the driver would be billed for it. Can understand it in either of two ways (a) he has some good kit and wanted it looked after or (b) he is just a ■■■ and a miserable git who likes to throw his weight around. Take yer pick !
