Aerial shot of A83 landslip More than 1,000 tonnes of debris was dislodged from the hillside at the Rest and Be Thankful
Contractors have removed more than 200 tonnes of landslip debris overnight as efforts continue to re-open the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful in Argyll.
The route was closed on Monday after days of heavy rain dislodged rocks and earth from the hillside.
A special fence successfully held back more than 1,000 tonnes of debris, including boulders the size of a car.
The Old Military Road diversion route was opened on Monday and has been operating successfully overnight.
This adds between 15 and 45 minutes to journey times between Tarbet and Inveraray.
Debris on carriageway The Old Military Road is now operating while clearing operations continue
Contractor Bear Scotland said removal of debris from the road restarted at first light.
A specialist 16-metre reach excavator has been brought to the site to help remove material from the slope which has been retained by the debris fence.
It will be work throughout the day with two other large excavators to clear the road.
Bear said that a timescale for completing the clear up should be known later on Wednesday.
We run from grangemouth to campbeltown on a daily basis (fuel tankers). When the rest and be thankful is closed we have to divert via callander tyndrum inverary, This puts a lot of extra miles and hours on your working day. When this happened last year the road was closed for 6…7 weeks. I used the old military road today for the first time, I was empty and it is a bit tight in some places.

I’d never even heard of the place until my trip to Scotland last month (holiday not work).
On way back from Isle of Skye, I thought it’d be a nice place to head for to have dinner with the missus…
There was [zb] all there
What were you expecting? A KFC and a shopping centre? The appeal is the dramatic scenery and remoteness. I spent many holidays when I was a lad in my two great uncles timber and tipper trucks running up and down The Rest. Got a special place in my heart. It’s what inspired me to become a driver.

I’d honestly never heard of it, thought it was a town, looked like a town on the sat nav, big writing if you know what I mean…
ypu obviously missed the butty van on the view point car park , one of the best bacon butty’s ive ever had, shall be sampling one next week when im visiting freinds n family up there
Waited years to go drive up the rest and did it last year.
Was lovely and stopped to walk back down the old road.
The catch fencing was just about finished
Almost did the job this time.
If any one wants a great drive in a car go from the car park at the top down hells glen then turn right back towards Inveraray. Great views and a real road to enjoy. (But not in a truck).
he can’t preload for me as he will run out of time, I will be the same tomorrow I can’t pre load for him,
so load for yourself, do your shift.
he loads for himself and does his shift.
why do you need to preload ?
I never liked preloading
I don’t see the point of it.
