Evil8Beezle:
As a point of interest, does anyone know the most damage/cost someone has caused on their first day?
There’s a fella on here, I forget his name, who took on a young lad with no experience to drive a bulker. If my memory serves me right, this lad kept [zb]ing up, causing damage etc, but he kept giving him another chance… until the lad made the wagon have a lie down on a dual carriageway and ran off home without so much as a phone call. This was all in his first week I think.
Hmm, that’s setting the bar pretty high! I’m really going to have to go some to beat that… I guess I could save some time on the deliveries and literally park the wagon in the shop…
So thanks for that, now i’m armed with the knowledge that things could probably have gone worse if I do [zb] up!
It’s less embarrassing to say you are an agency driver, than admit you deliver to shops… “Morning Mr Patel, I’ve got a delivery for you but someone has dumped a rusted Mercedes van outside… oh sorry Mr Patel, I didn’t realise it belonged to you”…
I’m the lowest of the low then, and I bet because I was delivering chilled & frozen goods, this makes my standing/kneeling even worse?
But in this weather, it was quite refreshing jumping in the back!
As for a rusted shagged out old Merc, I think you will find I was driving that!!!
I’m an agency driver ex forces and used to drive full time for various firms but took a few years out to do other things.
After renewing my cpc and registering with an agency i find I have more work than i can cope with, with companies asking my agency for me by name and block booking me for a month at a time.
My agency ask me if i would consider working for a company before they book me so i pick who i work for.
the companies i prefer to work for have all offered me full time employment which i have turned down as i like the flexibility of the agency.
i have NO points on my licence and 30 years experience and am bloody good at what i do with a track record to prove it. All the crap i read here about agency guys makes me laugh.
i have regularly come across dirty smelly wagons driven by full timers who look like a bag of refuse and smell as such.
Don’t class us as all the same as it works both ways ,enough said.

The anti agency theme on here is amazing. We are all drivers just trying to make a living.
Some want the security of a full time position and others want the flexibility of working for an agency.
There should be no them and us mentality.
Taking off my high vis when I drive does not make me a better or worse driver.
How can taking it off all of a sudden raise you to being a superior driver?
I prefer to keep mine on. Should that preference be considered inferior to others who want to take theirs off?
Agency drivers often have to drive unfamiliar kit and are just expected to get on with it.
We are all doing the same job. We are not enemies, despite some trying to create a divide.

Its called abit of banter pal ,to get a reply like yours and it does everytime
We’re all lorry drivers of some sort or another, well apart from a few odd balls who come here for God know what reason.
I’ve worked with superb agency lads and complete idiots, if they got full time jobs they’d be good full timers or idiot full timers.
Those who can’t take a bit of leg pulling are in the wrong industry.
+1
At some point most full timers have been agency and vice versa, agency is not so much a employment position its more a measure of quality.
I.e. I made such a mess of that bet you thought I was agency…
Light ribbing is essential in our industry and just the way things are, nothing vicious intended although the more shrinking violets amongst us may disagree, but the they are just agency.
The only exception is drivers who admit to wearing a hi viz whilst driving, these we all have to watch out for as chances are they havent a scooby doo whats going on. These folk epitimize agency standards and should have their picture posted on wikipedias definition of agency for all to be warned about.
Evil8Beezle: But I’ve been pondering what’s the most shocking thing i can say to them at the start!
Spend five minutes looking straight ahead pretending you have convulsions in both arms. Then slowly turn your head to face the driver and ask, “So, are you on the ■■■■■■ offenders register too?”

Just been to one of our regular loading places, messed up a simple reverse, got out the wagon in a new hi viz and been asked by the lad who knows me lol am i Agency
Hank Hill:
Remember my first day on the trucks & people telling me I need a egg stained white vest.
Times have changed very quickly!
Good luck remember to stay safe and legal
with a clean hiviz you may get mistaken for a office bod
Nah the public and customers still think and say that to me even in this day and age.
Even though I dress smart for myself and we move plant around. My lot have grown used to me wearing it now…though it don’t matter after the second load you still get some mud on ya no matter how hard you try.
