Any reccomendations for classic car insurance? trying to get fully comp quotes on a Series IIa Landy with two named drivers on a 5000 mile restricted policy and they all coming in at over £150 which seems a bit steep-- anyone got any suggestions ?
It’s often a good idea to join the relevant owners club for the specific type which provides club discounts on insurance quotes.I’m paying around £300 per year on a modified Jag that’s capable of 160 + mph.
My insurance is around £160 on this.
A few years ago it was just over £100, but has increased year on year. That price is for 2 named drivers, 3000 mile, and agreed value of £15000. I use Adrian Flux.
I pay £110 a year for this with a limited mileage, 5000 miles a year, and a guaranteed value with Performance Direct
I use 2gether insurance for my offroad toy with a 5000 mile yearly limit, I have a lot of modifications and they take that into account too.
Alternatively NFU or Adrian Flux.
Ive found the best people for classic insurance are N.F.U. they have always given me good service for my classic waggons and nothing seems to much hassle to them, i certainly would recommend them.

We were a member of the series 2A club, but left as there was to many rivet counters our car is not concourse and deliberately so/ we have restored her complete with dents , she has been around 40 +years already and we want to reflect that , her roof is off a series III and that caused but tutting and gnashing of teeth among the series 2A prurists . the very rivets holding the roof on were wrong for the age of the vehicle- But she is a ■■■■■■■ car, kept going by robbing bits off other Landys - the gearbox I in her was 7 years older than her year of manufacturer- the original obviously gave up at some point… we didn’t spend around 6K to bring Bertha back to concourse condition … we spent it to ensure she has another 40 years and reflects the life she has already had. So she has dents in her panels left in - on purpose - and that view on how to restore doent sit well with the clubs - they want showroom, I want to show she has had 40 years
That said - every nut and bolt is imperial , every part that wasn’t available has been fabricated from scratch, or made by hand from top to bottom she is brand new - to all intents and purposes she is a brand new vehicle
An investment we will never make back financially - she is probably worth no more than we have put in but the smiles and waves you get when driving her is priceless
carol nash or footman james were always good for classic bikes ,would imagine they do cars too

Funny you should say that … I found the Series 2 club very helpful regarding arcane details of what was made when and whether a 1965 vehicle should have the mark one or two trumble diffuser fitted, but not at all in tune as to why I wanted an elderly, and slightly battered, Landy. Have you tried the Old Leaf Sprung Land Rover forum? ollr.createaforum.com/index.php Sounds like it might be more your sort of place.
As for insurance, my Land Rover was with Peter James (who is the “James” of Footman James). They also insured my 1966 Citroen Ami, my two Citroen Dyanes and are still insuring my 1991 Daihatsu Fourtrak. I think I paid about a hundred quid to insure the Landy, which covered commuting and was not limited mileage. As a bonus, they are not a massive faceless conglomerate operating from a call centre: I’ve never been put on hold yet. peterjamesinsurance.co.uk/
got it sorted finally through Adrian Flux £130 fully comp with 2 named drivers limited mileage @5000 per year and agreed value of £9k that will do
