HI!I would like to get suggestions which type of should i go -artic or w&d for the class1 training?
I have got only 6 month experience on class2 but i would like to do the class1 licence! Thanks
Either will get you the licence. w+d is a bit easier. You’ll probably end up driving artics though. I would suggest either training on a “proper” artic or train on w+d then have a short conversion course to artic without the pressure of a test. That way, you’ve got the licence and sufficient artic knowledge for you to make a start.
There is no right and wrong.
I would suggest auto, whichever route you choose. No point in making it harder for the fun of it.

Thank u pete!Is the drawbar one easier because i ve got experience with the rigid or just driving the artic is a different story?
Do you know any driving schools near you?
We run a brand new Volvo Globetrotter articulated truck which is lovely to drive but what you should do is really hard to say, the choice is yours, maybe try out an artic and a drawbar, they offer a different driving experience.
Without doubt its easier to drive a drawbar, if you can handle a caravan and trailer then you can cope with a drawbar. However a full sized drawbar truck used by haulage companies are quite different to what us training schools buy - they are a different story.
Because artic is a different story. But let’s keep it in perspective. Hundreds of folks have passed on drawbar and got work driving artics. They often struggle with reversing.
A similar number pass on artic - and also struggle with reversing. The reason is that the art form of reversing takes experience to get consistently correct.
I have no axe to grind as we run both. Nothing to choose in the pass rates. I would go for whatever you’re most comfortable with. Because that will aid learning.
But I repeat my first comment that, if you choose drawbar, you should do a conversion course to artic. To not do so could be potentially dangerous.

A bit over the top their Peter. Most good companies do induction courses any way.

I stand by that. Someone in an artic for the first time who has trained on drawbar could easily come unstuck going forwards - let alone backwards. And we wont mention the damage that can be done coupling/uncoupling. Many drivers manage it and get away with it. But it has to be safer to be actually trained on the vehicle - either after passing on drawbar or from scratch.

Absolutely. With the emphasis on “most” and “good”.

I can see where your coming from but end of the day every time a driver gets in a unfamiliar truck irrespective of draw bar or artic it’s potentially dangerous.

But when the difference is in the configuration rather than the position of some switches, it’s a bit more “interesting”.
Pete
Artic gets my vote. I trained in an artic, passed in an artic, and have only ever driven artics since then.
They’re both very easy to drive.
Thanks for the answers! Will try both i think:)
