the scanny looks nice, but i would rather have the ECX, or even the EC11 Olympic in the other thread

yard full off xl globies and down hill dafs and none of the drivers ever complain about drivin this ERF… they say if the bed was wider its a better cab than the super space

what would you rather have jod? :unamused:

Walker movements of Coalville Leicestershire had those two ex Ashworths Ecx’s for sale at the time, and i agree they were in fantastic condition really smart motors. I saw them at Gaydon one year and the red one was a 425, but as someone has stated the move to 525 bhp is achieved by software, and then your ready to go hunt some virtual horse power Scania 144’s!!
“GET OUT OF THE WAY IM ■■■■■■■ BY” LOL

ure right mate they were lovely motors but the last owner who put them on the scrap … wrecked them the 1 in widnes is rough… its a shame…

is the door still open■■? still on blocks■■?

STRAIGHT EIGHT:
Olympic Sovereign cab, 14Litre 525, a match for anything else on the road. With ERFs, from A to ECX, you always knew you were going to get a better truck, but you were never getting the unknown, you knew the gearbox instillation would be spot on, the brakes would be terrific and the handleing would be precise. Alot of manufactures try a bit too hard with latest designs, and you end with a 1st year full of technological headaches! the Actros springs to mind, and so do the early 4 series. Like Dag says, they good reliable bullitt-proof motors, they shouldnt have been made to disapear.

Bulletproof :exclamation: They’re plastic FFS

I’ll agree with you on the Actros, but the 4 series, only some were problematic, I had an early P plate from new & it never missed a beat.

The reason they disappeared was because of poor sales, people didn’t like them enough to buy them, that’s a fact. I also agree that the ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ driveline is very good, they are all designed to go together so they are as good as any manufacturers in-house design & better than some, but there’s more to a lorry than the sum of it’s parts & that’s where the ERF was lacking, as a whole it was no match for the competition.

There are a few of you that love them, but ask most drivers & given the choice they’d go for a continental eveytime, myself included, this is because I think they are second rate, no prejudices involved in my opinion, they just did nothing for me.

Oh & BTW, anyone who is ranting about ERFs & has an ECT (whatever it was called) with an MAN cab & driveline should hang their head in shame, they are not & will never be an ERF (thankfully  ) I don’t like MANs either but don’t get me started

Speak to some of the major fleet operators then, the early 4 series had horrendous down times, no doubt about it.

The reason they disappeared was because of poor sales, people didn’t like them enough to buy them, that’s a fact.

Poor sales?? - Wrong!. ERF’s withdrawal from the truck market was entirely due to MAN’s worldwide marketing strategy coupled with the UK truck assembly labour costs. Orders for ERF vehicles were at a high when the announcement was made that they were to be built as re-badged MAN’s. Sales then increased again as operators bought the last ECX’s. From that point sales fell until the ERF was withdrawn. The ERF was not making MAN enough money, and competed for profit in what they saw as their UK heavy truck market. By axing the brand, they calcuated that MAN would take 75% of the ERF fleet market. In reality they have only taken about 40% of it.

Wrong again - the ERF has always been a good match for it’s sector competition. We had many fleet operators with thousands of vehicles in this area that I personally knew, and I have never heard that particular criticism from traffic mangers or their drivers in my 31 years of assosiation with the ERF marque. The facts are that the EC and ECX (and earlier models) were exceptionally cost effective machines from an operators point of view, and at least three major ERF operators in this area have vowed to keep them running as long as they remain viable - with the majority of their drivers blessing I might add.

There are a few of you that love them, but ask most drivers & given the choice they’d go for a continental eveytime, myself included, this is because I think they are second rate, no prejudices involved in my opinion, they just did nothing for me.

Not the drivers I know, but let’s stick to hard facts here if were looking at the demise of ERF, not bias opinion please.
