Class c lgv test past and only one more day of cpc and i,m ready to look for work. Trained with red rose training bolton, NOT NOT NOT recomended, took 4hrs per day training over 4 days and then test on day five. The only good thing about the whole experience was the D.S.A test. My confidence, moral, and self esteem had been battered that low by the end of day 4 of training, i felt it a waste of time going for test the next day. One hours instruction before test and o.m.g why am i even bothering. Examiner appears, a few questions, reply a few answers, in the cab and off we go. Straight away good clear commands, concise and accurate directions, all unlike instructions in my training. Wow 20 mins or so in barely a word spoken, lovely, peaceful cab, letting me get on with my driving. Unlike my training, raising of voice, waving of arms, and stamping of feet. After pulling in and out half a dozen times and a lengthy drive, i was pulled to the side of the road. Examiner informs me its now time for my independant drive, O.M.G this guy wanted me to think for myself and follow road signs, surely i should of covered this in my training with the puppet master sorry instructor. Approx 10 minutes later he informs me that i have finished my independant drive and proceeds to, yet again give me clear, concise, commands and behold we are back at RED ROSE TRAINING. Only the reversing exercise to do now, oh no the puppet master, sorry instructor, couldn,t even be bothered to set up the coned exercise. Examiner not a happy bunny because it was raining, but the puppet master sorry yet again for that, i,ll tell you what, for everyone reading this and me writeing it we,ll simply call him Frank. Well frank was stood there in the yard when we arrived back under his brolly of course. Not being able to help himself, because of his character he insisted on approaching the examiner before the test was complete. As he spoke and attempted to wash the examiners “a” hole with his tongue, he was told to remove himself and his tongue i assume, from the pad until the test was finished. End of test. Well i new i had made some small mistakes, fannying with the gears at some point, a bit of hesitation at a few other points but apart from that it didn,t feel like it went that bad. Any way i enjoyed driving the truck for the last 1hr and 10 mins that much without FRANK, i weren,t bothered if i passed or failed. I had just driven a truck in the way i thought it should of been driven and no one was going to take that away from me. Examiner tells me in front of frank (as frank was so eager to hear my result, i wonder why. Did he expect me to fail? ) Well you can obviously drive and drive a truck aswell, just a bit of hesitancy so get a move on when you start work. Anything else i requested, no he replied a good drive. We made our way into the centre to do some paperwork, i made my feelings known about the lousy weeks training i had and left. My discontent and complaint wasn,t followed up with an apology, discusion phone call or letter. Not very professional RED ROSE TRAINING. Oh and i nearly forgot FRANK: I had a gift for on completion of the course, but in my haste to leave i forgot to give it to you. But don,t worry i,ll give it to you if our paths cross again in the future, i will always have it with me its attached to my hand and its known as “the middle finger”. Thanks for nowt Frank. On a serious note though, if anyone out there is considering training with these muppets. “THINK AGAIN” you need your head tastin or at least avoid FRANK.
Congratulations I think? However, it seems to me that the company did provide you with the tools to now be the proud owner of a Cat C licence.
Once again, congratulations.
Well done for passing.
Id be pretty peed off if i paid good money for a instructor who just shouted, ranted and raved, waved arms and proper jumped down my throat with every error. Ive just watched a C training video on youtube with a loud mouth instructor, peoples nerves will be high enough without the one person whos supposed to be training you making things worse

Seems like FRANK needs some training !!
Congrats on the pass. As far as I am aware, Red Rose is a reputable trainer. It’s a pity you didn’t raise your concerns earlier with them; they may have been able to change your instructor.
But it has to be said that FRANK imparted enough knowledge for you to pass. But maybe, as ROG said, he could do with some training.
I feel my often repeated comments about DSA Registered Instructors coming on again - - - maybe this is yet more proof that what I say is right.
Pete
Ive only had my cat C a little under 3mths so I
m still very much in the learning curve, but I was surprised to read that the reversing maneouver was done on return to the test centre. Mine was done before setting out on the road, and I thought this was how the test sequence had to be done? No big deal obviously, but it just caught my attention!

Taking these couple of lines out of your rant, seems to me you were taught exactly what you needed to know, after all, you PASSED didn’t you? I used Red Rose to get my D1 and am more than happy to go back in a month for my class 2 then class 1 as I found them very friendly & very professional, and you don’t get where they are by being crap. Sorry mate but it sounds like you had a clash of personalities with “Frank” but to then come on TNUK and slag off the whole company because of what you perceived to be bad training is quite frankly, IMHO, bang out of order.
I think you need to stop waving your handbag and nails about. We live in a democracy at the moment and everyone is entitled to opinions. The post was my opinion, it wasn,t a rant, nor was it a clash of personalities. I suggest if you are that offended by my post, apply to have it removed or wind your neck in. By the way good luck with your class 2 and 1.

It does happen from time to time where many instructors are used by companies with many training vehicles
The owner of that company should appreciate any feedback given and then if the company is any good the owner will act upon it
If the trainee does not inform the owner then nothing will get resolved
I felt the same about my instructor (passed last month) I had 4 days of 2:1 then on day 5 1 hr drive then my test. I was ready to throw in the towel right up to test morning. My instructor would bang on the most common war cry “FORWARD PLANNING!! IT’S NO YIR CAR YOU’RE DRIVIN NOO” but then on one of the drives I told my instructor in just as loud a voice as his that “of course I didn’t know there was a fu*king bus stop there (hidden behind a tree on a sweeping left bend) as I’m from the other side of the country!” that was the end of day 4. The morning of my test for my 1 hr drive, I asked him to treat it as a test (no talking, unless I ask a question) and just pass or fail me at the end. I drove like I had been driving them all my days, then went on to pass with 4 minors. Prior to my test my instructor said “I’m sorry if I seemed hard but think about it mate! It’s a lot to take in, in 4 days and if I wasn’t so hard you wouldn’t be test ready!” They have a job to do and expect you to have a lvl of skill to pick this up and run with it and you expect them to get you through it in 4 days. They also have a reputation within the industry to keep. If they are hard on you, you need it IMO. They trained you enough to pass with flying colours if we are to believe the comments, so not really any issues is there?
i too have recently passed my class 2 last week with red rose and was lucky enough to be schooled by the legend that is dickie mint
with over 50 years experience driving and nearing retirement he was patient relaxed and never shut up talking{could talk a glass eye to sleep}
i was there to learn and did not have a problem listening nor absorbing tips on how to handle the big toy i was in control of all his experience was given freely this guy wanted to make sure i was gonna be safe in my chosen career
i mixed up the split shift like a bowl of porridge at times never fazed him never lost his cool
i was not there to prove a point but to learn,so quickly in fact 12hours learn time i passed first time too with 8 minors
with a contingency fund in case of test day snafu {situation normal all f**ked up} on my test spent training for a hiab licence the very next day which on a cold mildly windy rainy day was no mean feat of mr powells{permanant brew in hand} determination to ensure we were safe and capable of using under all conditions of operating and jeff {■■■ on wanderers!!} the head examiner had his opinions on my driving standard as well all gratefully taken on board… it might just keep me alive
two passes in as many days i think shows the quality of training provided at red rose
there is an old saying according to mr mint YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CAN’T FORCE IT TO DRINK
which in your case applies i think you can turn up to learn but no one can force you to listen or absorb knowledge
beware your over confidence in your abilities these toys have the power to kill you and others
i have no hesitation in returning as soon as my licence is back to take on class 1 and learn even more and would recommend it to any local lads thinking of doing the same

Not offended in the slightest chap, and thanks for the good wishes
Got to add a bit to this thread, I started my training on Monday with Red Rose, and guess who’s training me, yep, Frank! and you know what? this guy is a diamond, I could not wish for a better instructor, yes, he bollox me for making ■■■■-ups, but that’s whats needed. I don’t want some namby pamby instructor who soft soaps me when I mess up, I want someone to make me remember my mistake so that I don’t do it again. From day one I was screwing up the gears but after a few “gentle words” from Frank, I’ve started getting it bang on, same with road speed and other silly mistakes.
So yes, Frank doesn’t pull any punches and tells it like it is, but if I come out on Friday with a pass, then he’s done his job.
As in the rest of life, you can have a personality clash and the whole experience can be terrible. Some people respond to bollockings, some people prefer something a bit more constructive.
I passed my class 1 with red rose and thought they were great. Good tuition and good vehicles.
I took my class 2 with somebody else and the dude was a total prick and the vehicles shocking.
Their view will be you paid for a pass and that’s what you got.
