Class C Passed

5 minors and I had people against me, a Focus towing a Transit, with a bit of rope snapped… On a mini-roundabout. People reversing towards me to get around.

The odd van parked on double yellows on different mini roundabouts.

But the test wasn’t as bad as I thought

Sounds like you had a tough one! We’ll done though.

Congrats pal!

Sorry I forgot the best part, me and the instructor were told 8:30am… We get there and “nope, 10:30.”

Oh well.

Good job. Get yourself a beer or maybe a nice bottle of Walker black label. :sunglasses:

Congratulations on the pass. Well done.

Pete

Well done. Great feeling isn’t it  I passed C first time on Tuesday.

Thanks guys, still a long way to go though. Mod 4, CPC etc

Hopefully I’m doing my C+E in a couple of months.

My advice having just done CPC is don’t take it for granted that you are going to pass. Watch the videos on You Tube and study any materials given to you by your instructor. It really is not difficult as it’s common sense, but it can be failed! I passed with 100% and it only took 14 mins, but i was more nervous for this than i was for the driving test! Good luck and don’t worry.

C+E assessment next week.

I’m terrified of where the trailer ends up when cornering.

I’m terrified of where the trailer ends up when cornering

Firstly, this is quite normal. Those that don’t worry about the trailer are the ones that I worry about!

I’ll give you a couple of starting points, but your instructor is really the one who will explain all this. But no harm in a bit of a head start. Just don’t go for too much advice as it could be confusing.

If it’s a drawbar, simply position the prime mover (the bit you’re sat in) as if it were a decent size rigid truck. The trailer will follow the prime mover virtually in it’s tracks. This can vary depending on the set up though. That’s about it for a drawbar.

If it’s an artic, make the unit (the bit you’re sat in again) go the “long way round”. On the approach to a hazard of any sort, consider which is the longest route, and make the unit do it. The trailer will find a much shorter route as it cuts in considerably. Following this will put you far too wide in some cases. But a little practice and you’ll instinctively tidy it up.

Don’t be afraid to shut narrow lanes down. If you’re turning left (which is the common problem) and the left turn lane is only the width of your vehicle and a little bit, use some of the adjoining lane. But do it in good time. Don’t wait till you’re on the junction. If you want a distance, say 2 of your vehicle lengths is leaving it as late as you reasonably can. But better to do it earlier rather than later so other traffic knows exactly what you’re doing and wont have the chance to make life hard for you.

On a similar point, always assume you cant “borrow” any road on the way out of the junction. Always take the room you need on the approach. You cant possibly get it wrong then.

Roundabouts: no more complicated than a series of bends. Always start off with a left bend - so position to the extreme right of your lane. Then the opposite for the right bend and so on.

Make sure you check mirrors both sides all the time. Watch out for the headboard swing. (and the kerbs and other traffic of course).

There’s plenty more I could tell you but could possibly confuse - so I’ll leave it for now and wish you good luck with the assessment.

Pete

Congrats

Congrats Pandy and Sammy!

Good luck with the assessment next week :sunglasses:

Pete, that’s a great bit of advice there mate. Even I’m gonna take that on board - I passed in a drawbar, that artic advice is duly noted! :grimacing:

Assessment went great (In artic) I felt more comfortable driving it than the Cat C.
Cat C was a G250
C+E is a R450?

Rubbed the kerb, but didn’t clip anything. So I think it went well, only complaint was for speeding when approaching roundabouts.
