I got headache!
So much to take in and put into practice.
Getting used to lo\high, slap left\right was a bit of a problem. Hopefully have it sorted now so should be ok for tomorrow.
Getting used to size and length of the truck wasnât too bad.
Reversing exercise at first was pants but then got the hang of it.
Braking exercise was ok.
Having car drivers cut you up at islands left and right so they didnât get stuck behind you was an eye opener
The instructor said that it happens all the time and that you have to have eyes up your arse.
At some stages I was wondering will I get the hang of this!
Apart from that. It wasnât a bad day!
Looking forward to tomorrow!!
Youll be ok mate, i had the same things happen to me regarding stupid car drivers etc. I think all of us have been in the same situation, doesnt get any better once youve passed either!! Good luck with your training

Cheers mate.
The first day is always daunting I suppose. New things to learn and seeing how some car drivers react to trucks.
Itâs the start of my very steep learning curve!

All the best Big Lebowski and Slackeye! Know what you mean about the crazy car drivers, donât think its just to do with a truck though, think it also has a lot to do with the great big âLâ on the back hehe Hope the training goes well, and best of luck for the test!
Cheers

Cheers Convoy , Dr.Keys.
Iâm off in an hour for my next installment of lessons.
Iâll post later on how I got on.
I hope I got that gear box sorted now.
Best of luck Big.
The first day is always a bit daunting - and you see all sorts of madness on the road that you never noticed when driving a car.
Whatever happens, this training always makes you a better car driver and that alone can be a life saver.
Good luck with the rest of the training. What date is your test?
HEY BigLebowski, thats come round quick

My instructor is Bob, I canât remember his surname .
He is their transport manager as well.
My second dayâŚ
Well it went a lot better than yesterday!
I was on my own today for the first hour as the other lad had a day off as there was another lad doing his 3rd retest (failed on gears and coasting the clutch on his previous 2) at 14:30. He has been compensated by having an extra hour yesterday tomorrow and Friday, So instead of finishing at 17:00 we have been finishing at 18:00
I have managed to nail the gearbox now. Not 100% but as near as.
I watched the other lad do his gear exercise today and hill starts.I havenât done the gear exercise yet but it was a good insight of what to expect.
We went to the test center and the lad went off on his test. The instructor and myself sat on some benches waiting. I took the oppertunity to pick his brains about the actual test.
It was a good thing for me really as I have been at the test center now and had some insight of what it is like.
The lad came back from his test at 15:30 and sat in the truck with the examiner for 5 minutes or so. He came over and told us that he had passed!
I was well happy for him and congratulated him.
I drove back to the yard and dropped him off. The instructor went into the office for some paperwork. The lad came back to me from his car and wished me good luck and said not to get too nervous on the test has he had as the instructor was more stricter than the examiners. Thatâs how you learn.
I went out for another two hours. My postioning on two islands was pants and ran over a kerb on a tight left turn.
At 18:00 I got back to the yard.
At least my head isnât hurting today.
Oh yesâŚ
I went up the M6 northbound as well this afternoon. It was chocka but a good experience!!
Hi BIG i passed today, think ur right about the examiners been less strict then then the instructors i started bad, wrong position on reverse ,did it tho,and i the back wheels bounced on my controlled braking! but i drove ok on rest of test ,even put it in 2nd instead of 1st on the start of the gear exercise ,examiner pointed it out! so put it in 1st sharpish either he had had a good nights loving b4 or my instructor had paid him ,honest just drive smooth take ur time and plan and observe everthing! even if u do â â â â up u might pass good luck mate.
I had a black VW beetle cut up the outside of me at a small roundabout yesterday (on my test) and if i didnât steer left i would of hit himâŚthat made me hit the kerb, i should of sat in between both lanes so no traffic could do itâŚoh well hindsight is a wonderful thing!
best of luck on your test.
There was two of us today as the other lad had a day off yesterday due to the retest.
The other lad drove first to the gear exercise area.
We were shown by the instructor what to do and I was first.
I made a bit of a balls up with it the first attempt. The second attempt wasnât too bad going up the gears but coming down I was driving a bit in the gear then changing straight away instead of taking my foot of the accelerator, let it drive a bit then change.
Third attempt was ok but there still is room for improvement.
The other lad wasnât too bad on the gear exercise.
Reversing and brake exercise were ok.
I brushed a couple of kerbs and went up one, when I went into wrong gear and whilst sorting that out the front nearside went up the kerb on a slip road coming off a dual carriageway.
On the whole I feel more at ease with the truck.
Last day training tomorrow. Then test on Saturday at 13:00
BIG LEBOWSKI:
The other lad drove first to the gear exercise area.
Donât you still do this on the road?
Anyway glad to hear youâre getting used to the truck, just make sure you miss those kerbs

Yet again today there was another incident of a car cutting us up at an island.
What f+cks me off is, if you hit them they would be straight out the car ranting and raving at you saying it was your fault!!
I just hope I donât get cut up on my test.

Yes.
I meant area as in the road where they do the exercise.
I will be dreaming of giving those kerbs a wide birth tonight.
A lot of it was to do with being pushed over by oncoming traffic with parked cars on their side. The instructor did say that I shouldnât let them push me over to the left as they have a bit of room on their left so itâs upto them to move over a bit more. Very well said but you still get some cars coming straight at you as if they were the ones driving a truck!!
Tomorrow I will not let them do it!!
