And he’s pretty good at it too. Life would be very boring without slow of thinking, nutting off at other peoples opinions. Quite amusing.
As for myself. Passed class 1(C, C+E) around 2 months after my 21st birthday and later that afternoon, set off for Barcelona…
I have driven class 2 many times, and for the same money, I couldnt care less.
It is still a truck and requires much the same skill set to get from A to B without causing death and destruction. I have driven 40 ton bendy loaded with cotton or a 28ton rigid full of fuel oil, which one would you have rather have smash into your family car■■?
Oh, and I cant back up rigids for ■■■■. It becomes instinctuial after a while, and seeing the back of your rig do the exact opposite of what you asked of it, makes me say swear words.
Trolling attempts can sometimes be quite amusing.
UK Tramp doesn’t actually ever seem to get off the ground though.
In fact I would suggest that he has a significantly lower than average IQ combined with deep-seated lack of a sense of self worth that he attempts to compensate for, using a forum where he can safely hide in anonymity.

Probably be surprised at the amount of class 2 drivers that have their class 1 but prefer the less hassle :'-)
yep an old boy at my firm has

hang on Heisenberg, the guys an ex refrigeration engineer, that makes him better than your average HGV driver,[well he likes to think so]
I don’t like tipper drivers, doesn’t matter if they are class 1 or 2, they always want to overtake other lorries like Senna on roundabouts.

I’ve also got my class 1 but driving a 7.5tonner at the mo so I’m probably looked at as lowest of the low on here
Though the last 2 days at work before my 2 weeks in Finland were spent in an 18 tonner…
That said I am moving from Oxfordshire to Somerset soon and going back onto the coaches…

Do you think UK Tramp has been on the ■■■■ tonight??
He’s on something…
I think that there are far more C+E divers with Tramps attitude than some realise. I had had a Class 1 (C+E) since the very early days. Since the I have driven most things from Low loader to tankers to containers, all in 4,6,8,10 wheel formats. I have also driven plenty of 7.5 tons vehicles and in my last job a Ford ■■■■■■ van on a regular basis. Even when driving the van I was employed as a class I driver and paid /accordingly. But there were many, many times over the years when in a services/café etc I would be told that “you must wish that you could drive one of these” or words to that effect. Even though I made the choice to switch from artics to rigids to improve the wages I earned
You can see some of the same attitude on here, when posters talking about the job feel that they must at some point mention the size, weight, length, horse power of their vehicle, even though it has no bearing on the subject matter being discussed. And, what is the one thing most have in common? Yes, they are almost exclusively class 1 drivers. Even now, long retired, if I am chatting to someone who is currently a hgv driver he (never a she) is compelled for some reason to state that he drives “a 44 ton artic” or something similar. You rarely if ever hear the driver of an 18 tonner brag about the size of his vehicle.

Ha ha I’d forgotten he was a qualified fridge engineer.
I’m a qualified butcher, but I don’t go into a butcher’s shop and tell them that they’re doing it all wrong.
And what’s the title of the thread all about anyway?
Class 2 versus class 1, like it’s a bloody game!
I don’t really feel superior by being a class 1 driver, that was more for the reaction to boot some posters into action. However there is a strong element of truth behind this post and I do indeed see plenty of class 2 drivers cutting in too early and driving like they would a car. I was a little tipsy when I put this post up but what surprises me is the lack of drivers who care to admit that they are not egotistical over the size of their vehicle in comparison to the usual class 2. I see this in my fellow truckers at work all of the time. I too occasionally drive a class 2 and I really don’t give a toss so long as my money doesn’t alter. There is a natural progression through the classes from 3.5 ton two class C then class C+E, this progression is there for a reason. Gone are the days of car to class 1.

Feel like ■■■■ M8, got up at 9 am haven’t slept in on a weekend past 7am for years. Still won’t be the last bender I have quite sure of that though. Lost count on the amount of times I have said “never again”.
Id love to get my Class 1. Couldnt take the paycut at the moment though. Got to admit i do chuckle to myself when i see the likes of Curries and Stobarts queing up to get into RDC’s earning at least £2 an hour less than me. Plus im home by 3 and paid till 5 most days. Lifes hard on Class 2.

Doesn’t really matter what class your driving when you see the likes of Stobart and Curries, still have a laugh anyway.
class 1 isn’t worth a ■■■■ nowadays, no money in it, long hours, treated like ■■■■ no matter who you work for, bigger the truck worse off you are imo.

Not a lot of money in driving full stop. No idea what everyone else earns but I am happy with what I get from it. I have heard some class 1 jobs are minimum wage but not certain as I don’t know anyone personally who is, but I don’t doubt it.

There’s still money in the job but you have to shop about, i’m on class 2 at the moment on a tenner an hour in Manchester, it might not seem much to some but my t&c’s make it worthwhile, Mon -Fri 6 till 3 every other Saturday 6 till 11, also paid meal breaks which is rare nowadays.
Class one work locally is a mix up from 9 quid to around 12.50 but that is all on the pallet networks with the likes of xpo/clarks/freightroute which imo is absolute ■■■■■ work where you start early and finish late and have zero life.
best thing that ever happened to me was redundancy from norberts as after 20yrs on the pallet networks it showed me there was better work out there that suited me and my family.
