For those wages can I work on the till’s at Lidi’s please?

Yesterday I read a job advert for PCV driver at international airport here in UK, driving bus shuttle between terminals from 17:30h to 5:00h, pay 7,40p/h, this is freaking joke.
My local Morrison’ pay more for stacking shelves

in more simpler words would you drive a class 1 job for a company knowing they pay class 2 just 30p a hour less■■?Yes I would, because Class 1 work generally involves driving up a motorway, listening to the radio and scratching your ■■■■■■■■, whereas Class 2 work generally involves doing eleventy billion drops a day in urban areas.

Regardless of the pay, someone will still take the jobs, especially around Hull where they claim there is a driver surplus.
I suppose it depends on what the job entails, as the job and pay might suit certain people. My last job was £8.50p/h, time-and-a-quarter after nine hours, no parking paid. It was for an old-school firm, no telematics, everything done by phone, and the work was very easy, straight in and out of RDCs. As a young person who wanted earning potential, it was a crap job, but it would have suited an older, more experienced driver who wants an easy life, and doesn’t care about the money, possibly nearing retirement.
I do both Class 1 and 2, it depends on the day, but I would consider Class 2 multi-drop to be much higher stress than Class 1, especially when they send you to tight, busy places where they can’t get an artic.
Well I earn £8. ■■■■ easy job.

For those wages can I work on the till’s at Lidi’s please?Absolutely. My boy is 17 years old and he works for Serco at the local hospital, serving meals to patients, emptying bins etc and he’s on £8 an hour. Why on earth anybody would spend £3,000 getting a licence to do a job which pays 20p an hour more is beyond me.
Why would anyone spend 3k on a licence? Because its a bit more interesting than serving people on a till or emptying bins… Plus we all know that come the end of the week, even if the hourly rate is similar, Mr trucker will have racked up a far greater take home pay for a lot less ‘‘work’’

the employer obviously doesn’t know or care about the old adage: “You pay peanuts - you get monkeys”

Its not just them though, no one pays around here??
My cousin lives in Suffolk and our topline up here is still less than his take home… In the grand scheme of things their £8.50 isn’t that much of a insult as what some firms offer.
And that’s not me sticking up for them, or justifying the wage… But they are plenty that pay far less!
Don’t Greencore pay more than that for putting cherries on cakes?

…and the Midlands. Thats about average to good for class 2 around here.
The class 1 rate is crap though.
Be interesting to take a poll of drivers rates area to area in the UK, if you could filter out the BS.
Come to the North East…
Everyone’s still advertising £8hr…
Which is why I still haven’t got an interest in returning to driving…

Trouble is, everywhere has a big range. A quick look at DX within 50 miles of my house has treated for class 1 from £8.50 to £12, and there are several advertising at that rate, not just one. Plus everything in between (I haven’t included nights rate in that, just week days, 1 - 3 drops).
I guess you have to serve your time in the bad paid jobs before you can secure a better paid position?
Is there really noone in Hull paying £9 plus??

I don’t know of any that pay £9+ we just have to settle for whats offered, alot of people will sit there laughing at what we drive for but what else can we do?? I was brought up around trucks, if you aren’t a driver in my family your a fitter!!
I’m quite lucky as I don’t have to settle for a job, I can choose who to work for as I have some pretty decent names on my cv who are well known and respected.
Only people that might pay well is airproducts but that type of work does not appeal to me, abbey roadtanks was a massive payer a few years ago but they changed their contracts and all the drivers jumped ship!
I’m paid well over £9 hr were are I am
