Class 2 - Occasional Weekend & Holiday Work near York

Good Evening all,

Been reading through the forum for a short while now and have been building a large interest in truck driving.

I work in an office during the week doing a desk job but love the idea of driving, whilst at the moment it isn’t going to be my main income. I am wanting to do it as a backup in case the dreaded big R ever strikes me.

I am planning to get my class 2 licence and would then be looking to get some occasional weekend and holiday work. I may eventually work my way up to class 1.

My few questions are;

1)How do I set myself up do I have a private or limited company
2)What are the best agencies to go to in my area or how to identify good ones
3) As an average what can I expect to earn per day

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and will help me make my decision

Thank you for your support in advance.

Due to EU weekly rest rules you would be looking at doing one day driving every other weekend

Thanks Rog, that isn’t an issue looking to do around 15 to 20 weekends per year.

Do you believe it is worth doing it and is there a possibility of work with agencies?

If anyone knows any decent agencies in the York, Selby, Leeds area please let me know.

Thank you

Have you chosen your training provider yet?

Paul

Hi, do you fancy working directly for an employer? I can give you a few names of some of our customers to try.

Personally you won’t go far wrong using me or Laurie at Tockwith. If you want to train in a auto use Tockwith or if your happy to go in a manual use me your other option is to travel a bit further and use Peter Smythe at Mansfield who offers both.

Good luck what ever you chose.

Paul
