Class 2 hgv roundabout training

That’s exactly right, I used to work on one of those contracts. Some of the personalities I worked with were ridiculous. They were so rude to their trainees.

Even if someone is totally hopeless at something there are ways of telling them without without cursing out and making feel belittled.

And don’t worry Trukazz - as proven my this thread, there are idiots in all areas of life from driving instructors to trolls.

Yes and present Trukazz and future Trukazz. Just stick to shelf stacking you don’t have to think too much about that.

EVERY aspiring or new LGV driver has ’ new ’ experiences. A 7.5 t seemed really big to me years ago, and only a couple of years ago, an 18 tonner seemed longer than the M6. Last year an artic felt bigger than the wife’s arse, well maybe not THAT big.

Point is; Don’t mock people who are learning, as we have ALL been there. Also, if you HAVE to take the ■■■■, make sure it’s funny.

As for the ’ turn in ’ point on a roundabout, it depends on how small the roundabout, and even having your tag axle (if fitted) can make a difference. Excessive speed is the No1 enemy on roundabouts.

I was purposely looking out for 7.5T’s today and I suppose they are quite big compared to a car travelling behind. It’s all about milestones and Rome wasn’t built in a day.

The way I was taught was:

  • Hug the right of the corner on the way into the roundabout.
  • Switch to hugging the left lane around the roundabout.
  • Finally, switch back to hugging the right lane on the way out.

That way you’ll hopefully miss the corners and ideally the BMW which always tries to come round inside / outside you…at least on your test. Also means you don’t need to be too obsessed with your mirrors all the way round and can react to the Audi who’s now cutting you up.

Would agree with EagerBeaver on the speed thing, you need a lot more time to think and work out what you’re doing as trucks don’t turn as easily as cars, and the position of the steering wheel makes it even harder. You can do high speed roundabout turning, but you really don’t want to appear in the local paper under “truck turns over”.

From what I hear about Aldi and Lidl, the drivers pretty much have to do that as part of their job!

Hi guys
I am new here so hello to all.I started my HGV class c training two days ago but oh my God first day was very bad
as i struggled to change gears, the lorry has a slap-box 4 on 4, i hope that is how they call it.On my second day Tuesday
i made progress as i only messed up three times on the gears instead of 5 i kept putting it in 3.

I need help on how you approach small street roundabouts because they are tight and you can easily hit the kerb which is a fail.so do i stay on the left or go out a bit more before turning without stopping other on coming cars.
I have a very angry cursing instructor that says a lot of thing that put me down and it doesn’t help but this is what i want and i only have to put up with it for three more day.

I also want to thank everyone here on the free advice you give it has helped me a lot.

A mini roundabout is only meant for cars as you will never bend an artic goin round it just adjust your speed on approach.

There is a slight difference here between “The Driving Test” and “Real Life”. In real life, you will generally tend to straighten out mini-roundabouts, but in your driving test, you’re expected to at least make a reasonable, visible effort to “go around” a mini-roundabout (even if that effort is somewhat token in nature). Obviously you shouldn’t be making a complete meal of it, but you do have to show some kind of effort, rather than just driving straight over it as if it weren’t there.

Sorry thought it was an artic !!!

Hi guys I would like to say thank you all again for the great advice I was given and I can tell you it helped big time, I changed the instructor and the new guy was very calm and did things different from the first instructor, anyway to cut the story short, I PASSED MY TEST. Thank you

Very well done indeed. Not only shows you can drive but also that you have strength of character not to have caved in with such a discouraging ■■■■■■■■ for an instructor,. Oh and the troll on here can go screw himself with his obviously infeasably small member. ■■■■!
