Class 2 drivers I tip my hat to you

I haven’t done much Class 2 stuff in the past but today I have been taking one to East London and around and boy are they hard work in town. Give me an artic anyday.

So you earn my respect.

Mines 12.3 meters long. Huge over hang.

Once your used to it, it’s second nature.

Nice to see someone praising class 2 drivers instead of looking down on them

Heard a saying on here before, don’t go waving your willy thinking your big… Cause you don’t k kw how big the other drivers is…

I.e I have class 1, I’m paid to drive, I don’t care what I drive. Just don’t look down on me.

I’ve just done a shift of 12 drops around Luton in a rigid. Bloody hell is all i will say

Really , I wouldn`t brag about that  The nice people in the silver galaxys will slap you with the construction and use book.

12.3m is a bit of a limp wristed affair.

18.5m long is where we want to be. 620v8 for your 14x4 sir?

Although I think they’ve penny pinched with a day cab and not made it a bit longer with a Longline cab and a 730 for good measure.

I like the look of those huge outriggers, serious bit of kit that eh?

Wouldn’t mind, I always though it was too long, it even has a plaque next to the driver door with length,

Also, it is only an 18t motor, the gap between the two axles looks huge!

I might measure it tomorrow, you have got me thinking now!

We are getting rid of our two 18plts trucks thank Christ, its like driving the titanic, turning circle of a jumbo jet. Hate them with a passion every time i need to cover holidays i always ask if there is a spare unit cause i would rather take a artic, dont even care how tight the delivery is.

It’s a 101m concrete boom for pumping concrete up to the top of tall buildings and the like. Full story and more pics here.

Drive an 18 tonne rigid. Quite happy doing long distance. Dont like doing locals much. Have no intention of driving an artic especially as lots of adverts for artic drivers are for less money than I am on now.

I’m ok driving rigids until I have to go backwards, then I always turn the steering wheel the wrong way.

Yes, this is true. I did exactly the same thing when I hired a 7.5 for the weekend in the summer.

Having driven that to France and back, I would never look down on a rigid driver. Or rather I would never think a rigid driver less skilled. I cant help but look down from my lofty viewpoint.

Had a day on a 3 axle tipper yesterday…loved it! great fun, easy loading and unloading and enjoyed the challenge of getting it turned and reversed on the building site (superb scenery at the University as well  ).

This rigid love in is quite sweet but you do still have to do a rigid test before you can do the artic test.

Yes

I’m in a 26t as we speak and it’s a right ■■■■■, and frankly terrifying in London backstreets

My problem also up till five years ago Harry, I had not driven an artic for three years, then had a month or two driving nights to TNT’s hub in the midlands for trailer swaps and it was as if I had never stopped. But the first time back on a six legger rigid after those two months and I was all over the place again!

Yup me too. reversed into a space at services and looked like I was ■■■■■■■ Got some shakey heads from parked drivers. Must try harder :astonished:)

Last time I remember driving one I remember bombing out of the yard gate, putting on full lock and then a moment of panic as I was heading towards the wall on the opposite side of the street.

The lack of steering lock is quite frightening to get used to when you’ve not driven them for a while.
