Hi everyone , just joined the forum and what a great site.
I passed my car test in 1990 at 21 yr old I went for my class 1 but failed, at the time I was working for Royal Mail so had a secure job and was’nt that bothered.
Now the law has changed and I’ve been on 7.5t tramping for a while, can I still use the provisional entitlement for class 2, and whats involved now?
It poss still entitled but you will now have to do cat C ( old class 2 ) then go for CE ( class 1 )
TBH you wont get paid much more if you are on cat C if at all any
Then you will have to do the dcpc 35 hr periodic training before 2014 avarage £100 per 7 hrs although can be cheaper ( I done some of mine at £55 ) so can vary depends where you live
Then the job market is not good atm not many jobs about as you poss know can be hard for a new driver unless you still working for Royal Mail & they will give you a chance although not impossible as a new driver there have been some success
Sorry dont have a crystal ball so dont know your location
I live near Leeds, I left royal mail ten years ago, but I’m with a family firm now that is a part of a nationwide network(sprinters), I’m one of 3 7.5t tramper drivers, there is plenty of work and I’m out Monday to Friday,
I’m guessing if I stay put the company I’m am with will have to put me through my cpc.

Have a new truck every 3 years, and I’m the sole driver for 48 weeks.

Is the company you are currently with aware that those commercially driving vehicles over 3.5 tonnes need the dcpc because there are still many out there who have no knowledge of the dcpc laws ?
If your medical is still current then that will not be an issue with you going for C but you will need a valid theory test pass and that is only valid for 2 years from passing it

Hi martinwf5,
I’m afraid that your guess isn’t correct mate.
If you drive a 7.5t as you described, then the DCPC is your responsibility as the driver.
There are a number of topics on DCPC in the main PDF forum covering the good, the bad and the ugly, so there’s plenty of stuff to read if you’d like to gain an understanding of it.
However, there are a number of companies who are willing to pay the DCPC training fees for drivers, so I hope you’ll be one of the lucky guys who get their DCPC as a freebie.
