class 1 training

well its day 2 and im really loving it the driving part isn’t as hard as I thought due to the fact ive been driving rigids for over 3 yrs now, just got to get the rigid mentality out of my head, especially on the reverse… had a few good c.o.c.k ups with the reversing… but im getting the hang of it,did my first couple and un couple today and did it perfectly so hope I do it like that on the day… got my test on Friday morning so hoping it goes good and I don’t do anything stupid… banana on standby… :grimacing:

Day 2■■

I thought even the worst drivers were done in a day + a test - so maybe a day and half max??

I went for assessment on Saturday, did well, went for lesson on the Monday morning and someone had to cancel their test Monday afternoon so I sat my test Monday afternoon and passed, so I’d say in total I was in an artic for 5-6hrs maybe including the test?

I wonder if these training places are just ripping people off? :smiling_imp:

Thats British training institutions for you…

The problem is the test is far too easy hence there is so many bad drivers on our roads.
I have had 17 year old males and females pass their test with just 5 to 6 hours training and that is one week after passing their car test in the same amount of time.
The whole thing needs updating.

Surely you have undermined your own position with the details ? The whole idea of an assessment is to decide what each candidate needs to get them through the test?

Ok so you got through with one lesson, good for you, you are clearly a driving god. The OP has been assessed as falling into the mere mortal category like many of us and as such needs a few more hours to get through the test he is paying for.

Good luck on test day Mark41, remember they are not looking for a driving god like waynedl, just a safe drive !

I don’t think mine was anything special, most people I know had 1 days training with test the next day, mine fell lucky because of a cancellation otherwise my test would’ve been the Tuesday too.

I don’t know anyone who’s taken more than that, and this isn’t an attack on the OP it’s an attack on the training company. I suspect less people are doing the training now so they try and make more money out of those that are?

Exactly right iDriver.Everyone is different and some need far more time than others. In the good old days a car driver could take up to 3 weeks to gain a class one but he or she was shown all aspects of driving a truck.
One of the problems now is they are not trained to drive but to pass the test and it does not work hence the poor driving standards we see on our roads everyday.

If its so easy why is there not a 100% pass rate?

I’m a bit tired, so apologise if I’m misreading this, but are you saying 17 year olds passing their hgv tests a week after passing their car tests? Are we talking recently or in the past?

Simply because if the examiners passed everyone it would be a complete farce.Try doing an examiners course and you will see why so many poor drivers get a pass.
It amazes me how many seem to know so much about training and testing without ever being involved in it.
Even Rog with only 3 years as an instructor comes out with some bull from time to time.

Could be army car then lorry tests at age 17 ■■?

Ahh could be - like I said I’m tired so wasn’t thinking laterally! (My excuse and I’m sticking with it!)

Yes correct not just Army but RAF and all others as well all at 17.Having worked in the military and civilian training and testing standards are much the same.
Good and bad on both sides however still say the test is far too easy.
