Class 1 passed with AEdriver-Northampton

Hi guys and ladies, I just passed my Class 1 with AEdriver in Northampton.!!!

))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
After failed twice in Peterborough with Apex I had enough of that nonsense and went to the Northampton and passed with 3 minors!!
Highly recommended company, what I found was; they do care about students and they want them to pass on first time. Since I walked in to their office I felt a positive atmosphere and support especially important to rebuild my confidence after I failed twice.

GLEN MARTIN is a legend instructor, guy had been in the army for 39 years as a Motor Transport Warrant Officer.
He is so profesional by nature, decent bloke and always concentrate on the job which he been paid for(no bloody alright mate attitude)
There is no stress at all, you can practise reversing as long you want and they teach you to been in control of the trailer, not only how to reverse relaying on cones and stupid marks on the trailer.
This is wrong,WHY? well, once you lost this reversing system because of stress, you are lost and it’s really hard to rectified mistakes under the exam stress. When I done my reversing I didn’t look at yellow line and any supportive marks, just one cone on my right and nailed (I failed my second attempt on reversing). I was in control so any adjustment I done while reversing(no shunt needed)

For instance In Apex after 3 or 4 reversing excercise in the yard I had to go to city because there was another lorry waiting to do reversing practise. If I pay 50+pounds per hour I can reverse all day long until I become confident, sorry this is my attitude.
What is the point to go to city if you failed on reversing beforehand?!

They use nice brand new trucks and trailers(without that ancient rachet park brake like in Apex).
I went to Northampton without knowing any streets but after 2x4 hours of driving I become confident.
I found out Nothampton and Daventry much easier to drive than Peterborough, I mean less traffic, less taxi drivers and less attitude on the streets. Roads are much wider and most of the roundabouts are controlled by traffic lights. That’s helps!!!
On my exam I took the test route in Daventry which was so easy, yes what you want is to pass and then you will learn while you drive on daily basis.
In Peterborough once you leave a DSA test centre immediatly you are exposed to the city traffic and Peterborough driving style. So, If you thinking about taking Class 1 training in Peterborough, forget it and get yourself to Northampton.
Tust me I done it and got full licence so I know what I’m talking about.
Good luck!!!

Congrats.

Although not the financially the best decision; it often can help a lot to change instructor if you are not learning with the one you are with. I done the same as you had a bad experience with one school and switched to another and feel much more confident this time round.

My first instructor was no doubt a good trucker but for me at least he was a poor teacher.

As for changing where you take your test. I felt the same again but I’m taking the test at the same centre as last time, only difference is my new instructor is showing me how to deal with the situations better. I’m pretty much in London and I find the more traffic and noobs on the road the more you slow down and have to stop. Which means more time to think about what to do next.

My first instructor was no doubt a good trucker but for me at least he was a poor teacher.

And that’s the trouble with the job. I have little doubt that the majority of “instructors” are excellent drivers and are well-intentioned. But, with having no training in how to teach and no training qualification, the outcome is not always good.

When Jo Public realises that most “instructors” are untrained and unqualified then these expensive mistakes will be drastically reduced.

That why is really important to share an opinion about training schools, good one and the bad one so people can have some thoughts before approach some of the schools. When you about to spend few thousands pounds to gain some new qualification you don’t want to ,made in china’’ service to be delivered.
Some people go ok with Apex or different company and some of them don’t (like me).
Question is why everyone go alright with Peter Smythe or AEdriver training? Answer yourself.

Peter Smythe, you are missed in Peterborough, I done class 2 with you after failed with other company, the same story.
Luckily I have now my C, CE, D categories so no more training!!!

Not just the schools but the individual instructors at a school because some schools can have a few good instructors with one bad one

But surely it’s up to the person running the school to correct that situation? I certainly wouldn’t tolerate it. Our instructors know they are expected to produce passes on a regular basis. (It would be great if it could be 100% but the job doesn’t work like that). They also know that poor attitude to a candidate, let alone bad language, will not go un-noticed. And we’ve ended up with a brilliant team, partly because of this.

Hi Jareko,

Thanks for taking the time to post the feedback.

I’ve just added AE Driver to the TN list of recommended LGV driver training schools.

Congrats on your pass Jareko, and for the review to help others…
But as you are now no longer a VAN driver, you don’t need to worry about those lesser mortals in their rigids!
