Class 1. On top of the world!

Last week I signed up to an agency, they said they would try me out on class 2, see how I get on and then maybe sort out some class 1 work.
After one shift on a six wheeler last week the phone rings on Monday evening, just as I am eating my tea.
“How confident are you on class 1?”
“Err, fairly confident. Bout 6 or 7 out of 10.”
“Grab your stuff then, there is a load waiting for you. It’s wagon and drag. Close coupled, not A frame. You’ll be fine.”

It took me 14 hours (9.45 driving time) to do an 8 hour run after making a load of wrong turns. :unamused: I eventually returned exhausted but in one piece.

Went out again on Wednesday night in an artic, no problems, I feel I am getting into the swing of it now.

W&D again today, on the same run I fluffed on Monday night, but it went beautifully. :sunglasses:

I never expected to get work so easily, but I appreciate I am incredibly lucky (I have a new license and no experience). The agency I work for are willing to give me a chance to prove myself, and I hope I am giving a good impression. 6 months ago I was driving a fork lift, looking at wagon drivers and thinking “I wish that was me”.
I am over the moon, and wanted to share it with you. I was trundling down the M6 today, radio on, and thought “I am being paid for this!” I love being a trucker!

It’s a great feeling knowing you’re doing something you love and being paid for it. Well done

Way to go so pleased for you , that first run is like nothing else , a bit of luck and your away you proved yourself and theres no stopping you now well done

After 20 years I’m still have the same thoughts, especially when driving through some beautiful village in the south of France or heading for Italy through the mountains. Good luck fella, live the dream.

good on you m8. my first day out in our company artic is still fresh in my mind as it was only about a month ago! up until then i didnt know it was possible to be terrified and be grinning from ear to ear at the same time! its one thing passing your test, (second time for me, didnt pull the trailer brake! ) but getting through the first day without killing anyone or anything. fair play for the wagon drag too that must have been daunting. my bosses advice to me, “dont be too proud to get out and have a look!” see you on the road somtime. well done.
