Class 1 + Moffat

Ok, i’m not class 1 yet, i’m in the throws of paying for it and just thinking out loud.

I’ve been offered temp to perm at a carpet firm I’m at atm on class 2 and they have said they will train me up on a moffat which will net me an extra £1200 p/a once on the books.

Class 1 is my ultimate aim though. Are class 1 + moffat jobs paid any better? What are they like (hours etc.), any experiences?

I drive class 2 plus DFLT and I do alright

We have class 1 + moffat at our place - they just get their dinner paid (time not the food)

I would stay and take up the offer of free training and licence for the Moffet.Upgrading to C+E will cot you about £1,000.It will take quite a while to earn that back.No shortage of drivers 2 years exp.blah,blah.

Imo take the offer and do your class1 at weekends. theyll train you on a mountie. then when you have a class 1 you can go for a job with a free moffat and current experie ce of driving hgvs

also at our gaff they dont pay any extra for using a moffat

Cheers for replies fellas. Yeah I was leaning towards staying for a bit and getting my moffat with them. I’ve looked into getting the licence before and there aren’t that many places about that do the training. I’m previously a forkie so they hold no fear for me.

What’s the crack with moffat licences… do they need refreshing like your counterbalances and your reach or is it a different animal where once you’ve got it, you’ve got it (because you can drive them on the road■■?)

Class 1 will also be done B)

Has to be renewed à la FLT. There are different levels as well, older Moffies may not extend, but if going through a firm you’ll obviously get the right version. The new ones can spread the forks. I drove class two + moffy and found them them interesting and fun to drive as it’s quite easy to get them up on two wheels and not impossible to turn it into a unicycle. Allegedly. Just don’t extend a (heavy-ish) pallet while going downhill as the back wheel will come off the floor and you won’t be able to stop because the brake works through the hydraulics and acts on all three wheels or not at all and you’ll have to drop the pallet onto the floor to act as a brake. Or so I’ve been told…

bookmarked… cheers :grimacing:

I’d take the company Moffet training. Most of the trainers I know of use their clients equipment, can’t think of any training schools who have any of their own. Licence usually lasts for 3 years. Most class 1 moffet work will be building materials, turf etc.

Soon as I saw the word Moffet, I knew you would answer

Have Brit European lost the carpet work out of Belgium ?
