ive just passed my class 1 today . thing is ive got job in a million driving a roll on roll off 8 legger , start about 7 get home by 3ish , dont get chased allday … etc . got no chance of getting class 1 work as the two boys that do it all are going nowhere. so time to get a real job maybe . what can a novice class 1 driver expect an hour to earn ? ive been driving 8 wheelers for 7years so im doing ok on £9.60 p hour .chomping at the bit to do some hours , but not sure where to start looking . thanks
Stay where you are. The old guys will retire soon and it’s an easy job for good money you’ve got there

Listen to the best advice you’ll get today. As drivers we all seem to suffer from the ‘greener grass over the fence’ syndrome
Eh?
I’ve always banged on about poor rates up north rather than down here, where they tend to be mediocre for class 2 & Hiab only.
£8.00 for class 2, £8.50 class 2 with HIAB, £9.50 class 1, add £1 for nights & saturdays, £2 for sundays & BH.
Overtime/Right through rates depends on where you work. You won’t get much beyond 8 hours if you get overtime, so I tend to plump for the right through as to get the 15 hour jobs I like to save money on commuting.
Stay where you are. Roll-ons are great, plus it’s nearly an artic when you’re squeezing a 50 yard bin into some impossibly tight spot.
P.S. Ever noticed how tipper drivers never look you in the eye? It’s because they know you’re cleverer than them
ha yeah i have now you come to mention it ! i went from tippers to roll ons . hated the way tipper work made me drive , ie.like a lunatic !i do love doing roro work , loads to think about ! maybe it is best i stay where i am . thanks for the feedback lads .
