I’ve been doing class 1 general haulage for around a year now. I’m getting bored of the long days and being sat on bays for hours on end. Has anyone done class 2 tipper work before? And if so what are the pros and cons of it when compared to class 1 general haulage?
Class1 containers far easier than general and nit so much rush rush as tippers and 1000x cleaner than both
But lots and lots of hanging around still, at least it was 50 years ago when I was lurking for ages in Felix, Soton and etc..
You note I didn’t mention Liverpool….Doh!! I’ve done it again, promised myself I’d never say that, I’ll have to go and have a lie down now.
Luckiky i dont go to liverpool
Mostly Ston
I thought containers was even longer days than general haulage? It’s the waiting about that’s driving me insane I’d rather be doing something than sat on bay for up to 4 hours.
Most jobs are long hours if honest.
Builders jobs are better hours 8 ISH until 5 when store closes.
Only down side they want you to work either every Saturday morning for few hours untill 12 or when ever so you get your 45 hours off or some work full shift every other Saturday.
Not many jobs with decent hours anymore
I’m paid by the hour , the longer they take more I earn for sitting on my bum browsing face book or taking 120 winks
PS I’m a tramper as well
If youve got same truck all the time become a tank polisher
Try to get on car transporters? Or tanker work? Or crane/Moffatt work?
Depends what is availble near you really.
As @edd1974 has said cranes on builder work is local and fairly short days but involves weekend work.
The other types of job might well be long hours, but not so much twiddling of thumbs.
Edit to add…plant hire too.
Thanks for the suggestions. I don’t mind working between around 10 and 12 hours. It’s when they expect you to do over that as a day driver thier taking the piss. It’s okay If your a tramping because you out anyway.
That’s my suggestion out the window then. I push cages and my days are anywhere between 6-15 hours. Today was only supposed to be 10 but it’s the A3 closure has put a stop to that.
I done class 1 pallets for 2 months prior and it drove me nuts. I need the faster pace and physical type hgv work.
