it is a 50/50 question imho. Some have gone working after class2, some (including myself) done class 2 and 1 first and then started knocking on the doors.
both have pros and cons, so it is really up to you what you feel is right

better to do it all in one go than get so far and think ■■■■ i should of done that.
plus if you do class 2… then drive for a few years, gain some bad habits then doing a test again will be hard…
Personally I’d do them both then see what happens on the work front and take what you can get whether it be class 2 to get a bit of experience or class 1 if you drop on lucky,stobards take on newly passed class ones I believe and from seeing in here and other job advertisements companies are becoming more willing to take on newbies because they are struggling to find enough drivers.
If you can afford it do both from the off,once it’s done you can forget about it then see what work comes your way.

I ask as it cannot be done - in one go
It’s two separate courses one after the other , roughly takes 8 weeks from start to finish !

If there’s nothing to stop you doing both, why not. Nothing wrong with giving yourself more options.

£2600 is only on the basis you pass both tests first time… so what if you start the training and hate it or cannot adjust to such a big vehicle.fail the class 2 test then the cost will rack up with test fees, training company costs…then your still committed to either take the class 1 training or walk away and lose out…
My best advice is get your class 2 under ya belt and register with acouple of agencies… then go for the class 1 once you got some experiance…
That thought did cross my mind about fails , and this is one of the reasons I was wondering if doing both is the right move , that and experience , but I have taken into consideration of fails and covered the out lay , I think I would be mad not to cover hat anyway ! I agree with what you say that was my initial plan but I thought of the savings I get from doing both in the long run

did my class 2 in january passed first time then booked my class 1 for march. while waiting did a bit of agency work for hermes (garbage Job). passed my class 1 first time 3 minors went to a company asked for job they saw my pass certificate started the following week lol. Still there now ha ha.
