Clarification, please!

If my GP has no facilties to do an eye-test, could I take a recent prescription from an optomerist? Or not?

Don’t think so. The prescription defines the lenses needed. It doesn’t state how good your vision is using those lenses.

Simples!.. And quite expensive! But thank you.
(Yet) Another thing to bear in mind!

A GP should have a snellen chart. I took the prescription for the glasses I use and everything was fine. The doctor may or may not require to inspect this. If your uncorrected vision is of a particularly poor standard (requiring large correction), then it may come into play more. The most important thing seems to be to meet the required vision standard either corrected or uncorrected.
