Clarification on towing with cat C only

One of the lads has his cat C licence, but he had his C1 “grandfather rights” licence for years.

Is he entitled to tow more than 750kg?

Not with a cat C vehicle

He could tow more with a cat C1 vehicle using the pre 1997 C1+E but the vehicle GVW added to the trailer plated MAM cannot add up to more than 8.25 tonnes as that C1+E will have a 107 restriction
7.5 tonner with 750 kgs MAM trailer = ok
5 tonner with 3.25 kgs MAM trailer = ok
