Dont think there was ever “a limit” was there ?
The way i interpreted it was as UK “guidelines”. . which used to be 3kgs of baccy and 3200 ciggies as long as its for your own use,not consumption.
Dunno if the goalposts have moved ?

Is still the guideline quantity.
Over that and the UK Border Agency (Customs) are liable to take a serious interest in you.
I’m not 100% certain of the exact wording, but I think it is ‘only for personal consumption’, although I think it can also be gifted to family and friends.
I know you can’t use it as ‘payment in kind’.

Web Site for Route 66 in Lux, with a price list

I remember years ago, when returning through Lux and Belgium heading home on the Metz route, most drivers would diesel up at the Shell or Texaco stations in Lux and obviously buy the usual mega loads of tobacco and cigs, (as much as the cab could hold sometimes). The Belgian police/customs often had a check-point in the first big lay-by across the border before Habay and would do the obligatory check inside the cab, anything over their import allowance, would be confiscated and they new where to look too. Their argument was that you were bringing the contraband into their country, they weren’t interested that you were only transiting and going to England.

I have just spent the afternoon in Adinkerke and the current price, current as of two hours ago which is about as current as you can get, :stuck_out_tongue: for B&H is £37.50 or €46.

excuse me for asking but “theoretically” if somebody wanted to buy at this rate and “sell” them at a profit in the UK how is this possible? surely you wouldn’t get £45 plus would you? theoretically speaking of course

P.S. I’m not a smoker so have no idea of prices but i used to remember people whinging about paying £25 in the pub albeit 6 years ago mind

I have no idea, I don’t buy them so have no idea what the going rate is in the UK. I was just in the shop this afternoon talking to a friend who works there and somebody came in and bought some B&H which is how I know the price.

Well a carton of 200 Benny’s in the uk is well over £50.00 so if someone can save a tenner or so, i’m sure they would. the imported tobacco used to be sold for just over half bat of uk prices , when i first went to adinkerk a sleeve of benny’s was only £18.00 ,but i jacked in smoking as i could no longer afford the over taxed prices here

thats why mayfair have done so well over the past few years and now more people seem to be going to baccy.

this thread reminded me about cheap ■■■■. i have a client who wants me to go across the water to bulloin or whatever it is. thats how it was pronounced so maybe someone can elaborate and tell me how its spelt and what country its in, not to mention the limits on bringing ■■■■ back of course

I think they will cost you nearly as much in Boulogne as they would in your local tobacconists. France is no longer a country for cheep ■■■■

I think the french only allow 800 cigs through their country so any more and you risk loosing them

so its france! and not deepest darkest europe either, just off the ferry. thanks guys. the ciggies would be nice but finding out where the place is was my main concern. im assuming they wouldnt accept sterling anyway and presumably i would lose money on the conversion to euros which should be incorporated into the cost of buying cigs over there. i guess its not worth bothering about
thanks again

All the tobacco shops in Belgium which cater for travellers from the UK, such as those in Adinkerke, accept Sterling so no conversion rate to worry about.

as far as i know, i wont be travelling around europe. its a tip at boulogne fish market apparently then collect a backload from somewhere, hopefully back over here as i really dont fancy trying to find my way to somewhere when i dont even know what country its in. i was told belgium but its obviously france and right at the port by the look of it which is as far as i am willing to go. the rest of the work they are offering is uk only which is what i want. spotting this thread just reminded me about cheap ciggies over there. seemingly one for the history books though

Usually after tipping fish at the fish market you usually pick up yoghurts at one of the laiteries or in to belgium for frozen pizzas at the cold store just in belgium for Dr oetker, if it is pizzas then your well placed to pop into adinkerke for ciggies which is just at the last jct before you cross the border back in to france.

Am I the only one that can’t get the price list to come up?
I’ve found a cached page, but it’s out of date.

Won’t load for me, get a 404 error for promotions as well as the price lists, but as a guide they won’t be much cheaper than in belgie here see their prices http://www.realtobacco.be/warehouse/products/cigarettes/

Thanks.
Not as cheap as I thought they would be.

I got 200 regal from Route 66 3 weeks ago £33.00.
Most English cigs around the same price.
