lolipop:
When I worked for TNT Newsfast we ran on Xmas night and every other Bank Holiday the only night that was not run was Xmas Eve.
Xmas night,Boxing night,New Years Eve depending on how your rota worked out, sitting in Wapping waiting for the Sun or News of the World to come of the press
.
You ran Xmas night but also didn’t run Xmas night. How does that work then?
On most of our jobs the subbies are having to run everyday over the festive period as the sites we collect from don’t stop running and only have very limited storage.

I remember seeing a Wheyfeed (Nottingham)/For Farmers tanker heading into load at a local factory at about 2am on New Years Day this year. In some sectors its just another day on your shift pattern albeit you’ll get extra for it its certainly not optional!
Before working in transport worked in catering for 25 years so often worked Christmas Day ( people loved to go out for lunch that day ) also Boxing Day NYE New year day also hardly stopped from September for party
I have been asked to run out late Christmas night due to fact I work on fridges
Heard on the radio other day people say shops should open on Christmas Day as they are bored or want to get out of house while dinner is being cooked have they really though about it

Being ancient I can remember when we as a country first had New Years Day off as a holiday, 1974! Before then it was just another work day but absentism from work persuaded it to be made a National break. However in 1977 I was laid under a Foden refitting the Gardner sump at 2am on the 1st of January, I stayed sober that New Years Eve haha!

I’ll happily work Xmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day as my girlfriend is working those days too, so no problem (for right money of course)
If anyone knows where there’s work on those days anywhere between Manchester and Morecambe, please let me know.

I’ve worked on Christmas Day before, it did feel weird writing 25/12 on the tachograph card but it was just a normal working day where I was (I drove from St Petersburg to Moscow).
I would work it this year on UK work if the money was right, now my children are grown up to me it is just another day and if it paid for me to take three days off when the sun was shining in 2017 then I would go for it.
To me (and the family/wife) it’s just another bank holiday, however. I will be driving my wife to and from work (no buses - drivers need a break) because she has quite an important job at Sheffield childrens hospital where she also works the rest of the year including other bank holidays (depending on shift rota etc) - kids eh has no one thought of the children
Someone somewhere will ALWAYS need to work - please spare a thought for those that have to work for others
the best thing about heading out for a euro trip on xmas or new year is always no vosa…next to no traffic cars…negligable traffic and mostly no gridlock.flat out and double the distance in half the time…
I think there’s certain jobs where you can expect it and you should know Xmas working is part of the deal when you take the job, such as milk etc, then there’s others where unless you were made aware Xmas working was part of the deal then you have a right to moan and shouldn’t just ■■■■ it up.
Place we pull out of is shut xmas day. they do 4 on 4 off, they have been told that if it is there day to work they must book a days holiday or not get paid for it.
Always took a long Christmas hol when the kids were younger, including a few days before to see them excited about the lead up to Christmas.
It just became a habit, and when they got older I continued to take a couple of days before.
They are all grown up now, so this year I’m working up to Christmas Eve lunchtime ish, but off to Jan 4.

Haulage yard and office in Malaga shut from Fri evening to monday morning this year, all trailers destined outbound have to be back by friday , just Jose on the gate to let in stragglers/lates…
Boxing day 1989 Federal express asked if I would run the night trunk ? I said ‘NO’, they offered me an entire weeks pay for one night, I took it and left at 8.00pm. This is the sort of BS you people are sift enough to put up with these days, say NO an stand your ground.
