instead of all that expensive scooping up in cages stuff, could they not just pass a law that makes it legal for trucks to have their pish bottles dangling from the nearside mirrors, and some bright spark can make them remote controlled so that when you see mr or mrs vegan mangina tottling up your nearside, then…woooooosh, bombs away, and as you drive away, they will be stopped at the kerb covered in pish…more of a laughing stock than they normally are.a painless reminder not to be complete spastics, and self esteem points for the truckie.surely a win win win situation for everyone concerned with that idea?.especially during the summer months, then the next time they try it,then if the driver cant see them, the smell of warm pish wafting upwards from the nearside may alert him to the fact that they just cant take a telling and give them another helping whilst taking their toes off.

So he wants undertaking a vehicle to become legal…■■?

It’ll start with the cyclists, then other drivers will think ‘ooh, think I’ll do the same’…

I think some sort of mechanism should be invented. A “safety” device. London loves “safety” so how could they argue.

When a lorry is turning left and a cycle is scudding down the side, a thin scoop with a cage over the top comes out of the side of the trailer and lifts the bike up. It raises up with the cyclist still swearing inside. The lorry carries on turning left and the cycle is taken where ever the lorry is going, even if it was trying to go straight on  .

A warning (not too loud, just above audible) goes off in the cab and after a mile or ten the lorry can pull over - In a safe place of course - and the driver presses a button which releases the scoop and sets the cycle back on the gutter  . Lorry drives off.

Another benefit is everyone seeing a cyclist in the cage, it’s a sort of mile of shame for the cyclist. Everyone can see the cyclist that tried to get himself killed. A bit like those heads on spikes in medieval times. A visual deterrent too

Or a massive board/barrier that pops out the lorry’s nearside tail end that says “cyclists beware”, but is timed to pop out so that cyclists haven’t enough time to stop … until they smash into the board. Cyclist stopped… no undertaking… lorry drives off.

I like it, like a very last minute warning  .

Did you ever see that Phoenix nights episode where max showed off his cheap car alarm? Instead of the “caution this vehicle is turning” boring ones you could use this

I did - very funny too. I remember being on a dcpc course on Saturday morning, and our instructor was talking about cyclists, undertaking, left hand turns, etc etc. He was asking us what possible safety devices could be employed on lorries, and the usual replies came: stickers, door windows, extra mirrors etc. Somebody said “what about audio warnings?”. “Good idea” chirped the instructor, “what do you think they could say?”. After a few seconds silence and thoughtful frowns I heard “■■■■ off” boom from the back of the room, and I still laugh to this day.

Which brings me to the point: I think there should be more indicators down the sides of trucks, for eg, on a trailer 6 on a rigid 4…surely that would give cyclists the 100% guarantee that a vehicle is turning left or right ( unless the driver has forgotten to indicate or turn them off…In fact i believe they should be made compulsory…would certainly give more security to a driver and also to a cyclist who Dares to ride down my inside ( could also apply to some car drivers.)

Our trailers already have indicators down the sides or repeaters and guess what? Yep, they still ignore them. Can’t understand why they insist on being stupid but they just are and the majority seem to think they are invincible. About time some were prosecuted for acts of gross stupidity.

Cyclists, the leading force of the current “Self Entitled” Generation. People need to take responsibility for their own actions and not blame other people who are simply going about their business.
