Yep, all that relevant recent truck driving experience coming to the fore. Bet you were itching to say you’ve done more miles in reverse weren’t you…if you didn’t ruin every thread you contribute to it wouldn’t be a problem. But you do. Anyone can contribute, even non drivers. But when one person repeatedly ruins thread after thread it gets annoying. All you do is repeat the same thing for page after page after page after page. Yes, we get the message, let the debate move on.

So exactly what is it about driving trucks amongst cyclists ‘recently’ that makes it so different,in your view,to driving trucks amongst cyclists in less recent times.Other than those cyclists are becoming ever increasingly more stupid in their actions because of the PC climate being imposed by those with your view. :unamused: The fact is your problem isn’t that I repeat anything it’s just that it doesn’t agree with many of the views held by others including you.

Just killfile it & ignore it. It has many sock puppets it can muster to ruin any chance of a civilised discussion if it doesn’t go its way.

If you upset it, like I seem to have, it starts throwing its teddy bears out of the cab window.

THINK of the teddy bears !

Errrrr, well, two things. First of all recent experience counts as you yourself have admitted that it was different in the past. Secondly, we dont disagree, as I pointed out previously. We both would like to see cyclists off the road.

You upset me? No, I just think you’re comical. Its great to have the forums very own ‘Captain of Industry’. Nice of you to side with Carryfast though, very charitable.

*ps, you’re not exactly renowned for ‘civilised discussion’ now are you. Glass houses and all that

When I was a lad growing up in Yorkshire, if you were caught riding a cycle on the road, the copper would kick yer arse and tell us to ride on the footpath or the back roads. There was a lot more industry around and many people rode a bog iron to work. Lorries were dirty smelly things with small mirrors like beer coasters, yet there were less injuries and deaths. And you didn’t see people riding a cycle with a crash helmet or a dust filter. Have we really moved on?

Blimey I agree with wheelnut.Less PC bs means more safety.

Just to add in the rare case where a copper told you to ride on the road amongst the trucks and buses,as happened in my case, your dad told you get back on the pavement where you belonged and just ignore the jobsworth zb.

Really? When I was 12 or 13, I was cycling on the pavement next to a main road. A copper came round the corner, gave me a right rollicking and told me to get on the road where I belonged. Still cycling on the road nearly 40 years later.

In my case the copper took my name and address and came round to the house expecting my father to sort me out.I can still remember what my father called him after he’d shut the door when the copper left. :smiling_imp:

The number of cyclists in London even over the last five years has grown by a huge amount and for anyone who doesn’t drive there on a regular basis it must come as a shock to the system.

Lorry-Ban by Night and now by day too.
Thats OK with me. Londoner just have to come out to Hatfield to dothere shopping. May be OK with the Hatfielder too,and Tesco hasnt far from Welham Green to Hatfield :sunglasses:

I wouldn’t bank on that

From the driver’s point of view the basic issues of dealing with cyclists and the hazards involved in that are no different. The blind spots are in the same places and trucks are the same overall sizes requiring the same amount of room. The higher number of cyclists just mean, that on the law of averages,it’s more likely that there will be correspondingly more mistakes made by either drivers or cyclists and more collisions resulting from that.In which case it seems stupid that we’ve now got a system that encourages more cyclists to use the roads in places where before, especially during the 1970’s and before, they’d have been encouraged to use alternative offroad provision wherever and whenever possible. That stupidity being of levels such as this previously posted example.

Let me guess you’d have said use the road hoping to get rid of me under the wheels of a truck or bus. :open_mouth:

This morning on BBC news they were reporting that London police are having a crackdown on the behaviour of all road users at junctions, with police stationed at various points at rush hour. They reported the biggest problem so far was car drivers encroaching into the cycle only box.

at work today in the coach station in Westminster I had seen 2 people on bikes go the wrong way down a one way street and almost get hit by a bus going the correct way now who was at fault ■■

If you need to ask then you shouldn’t be driving vehicles, assuming you do that is.

yes I do the thing I found funny was the muppet on the bike shouting at the bus that almost hit
it would of went under the front wheels

not sure if its true but i am sure cyclists are allowed to ride the wrong way up or down a one way street, sure i heard it on the telly about 3 or 4 years ago

A cyclist has has been killed in flood waters in oxford . The cyclist association is outraged and will lobby the government to retrain all flood waters with immediate effect
