Hi lads. Any more info on Chiswick tippers? I may know some of the drivers
I have mentioned this company a couple of times, they had a fleet of Blue Foden 8 Wheelers and I came across them working on the construction of the last link of the M62 between Goole and North Cave. The Ouse bridge was the last part to open although it was built but there was a diversion splitting the road into two after a slippage.
Chiswick drivers were hard working, hard drinking men of the day, and probably fathered a few children in the area There were several incidents in the area, one of which was a couple of drivers who had been banned out of a pub decided to drive their 8 wheelers inside the pub, another driver was drinking in my fathers pub and he was so ■■■■■■■ he climbed outside through the window because the front door was locked.
One of the site agents on the job was an obnoxious pillock who hated everyone, there was a huge row one afternoon and it involved several men rolling on the floor fighting over money. My Brother who was about 17 took him and two drivers on and threw them all out of the pub.
If anyone worked on that job, they would remember it, as it seemed one long drinking session.
Other contractors were Budge Construction, Norman Smith (Congleton) and Redpath Dorman Long
