Going on a wee jolly next Friday from Chingford to Dover and over to France for the day. Booked on the 9am P&O.
How long should I allow to get there? I mostly drive in Scotland where our biggest problems are sheep and tractors so the journey to Dover is a new one for me.
Tom tom and google maps reckon 1hr 40 but hopefully you can give a better estimation, driving a transit btw.

I think a lot of the schools will be back next Friday, it’s been nice without their chaos. I reckon if you left around 6.30 that gives you 2 hours to get to Dover through the M25 roadworks and Dartford before it gets busy and gives you time to do whatever you have to at the port. You’ll almost certainly end up being ridiculously early but it’s better than getting stressed by the traffic when you’re booked for the ferry.
Either M20 or A2/M2 is good, A2 getting better all the time, it’s good road right to the end of the M2 from the M25 and not bad after that and it’s shorter than the M20. I usually go one way and back the other.
Oops turns out its actually the 10am. So check in for 9.30.
Any difference to whats already been suggested?
I’m thinking leaving at 7, 7.15 at the latest giving us about 2.5 hrs to play with.
You should clear the Dartford about 0800 once you’ve cracked that you should be fine. It’s pot luck really but they are usually good on the ferries and load you on the next one if you’re late. Sometimes they’ll forward load you if you are early.
Cheers for the info. Left about 6.30 and arrived in Dover about 8.10. Gave us plenty time to park the vans outside Dover and get to the dock. They were supposed to be travelling but P&O wanted £450 for an empty 7.2m transit instead of £72 for one at 6.5m. The hire company didn’t supply the short we thought we were getting and the booking had already been made.
Think we passed you in the queue for the bridge at Dartford about 7am.
