Some of the bmw 730 s have a programmable heater on them that you can set to come on and off bit like a night heater I presume,
I have a 530d how would you find out if it has the disabled heater or not ?
Any links to the remote control start , which isn’t a bad option if not to expensive
You will see the heater under the bonnet, and the exhaust underneath. To be honest if the heaters are fitted, they are usually meant to work.
Otherwise the loom will be there but no heater.

Worst car for taking too long to heat up is my Passat, about 8 mile at 60 to reach operating temperature, thank goodness for heated seats !!
Yeah my Passat seems to take longer than previous different cars to warm up but I’m only barely 7 minutes and 3 miles away so it’s hardly going to get like a sauna is it .
Pah…
Unless you have to scrape ice from the inside of the windows, you don’t know what cold is . My Mk5 Transit warms up fine on idle, and blows warm air in minutes.
(Yes yes, if it starts… )
Was it Mercedes engines in the old SK that used to warm up in no time? I seem to remember that ■■■■■■■ also got the cab warm pronto.

Sounds like it needs a new thermostat TBH.[/quote]
Good point, hadn’t thought of that as I just put the seats heater on full and put up with it .
I don’t need a scraper for my Ford Fusion , just get in , press 2 buttons for front and back , put heater and blower on . It doesnt matter how much the car is covered in frost , It is warm and all windows are clear within 3 minutes,

Just looked at the webasto prices PHEW might just set my alarm 5 mins earlier. What system are you using 109lwb?
It’s a factory fitted webasto that I’ve modified to come on by using the follow me home headlights. Press the fob once to turn the lights on, and that also fires a signal to the heater to activate. Press the fob again to turn the lights off and the rest is magic.
The factory way is it just comes on when you start the car and the temp is under 5 degrees, but that’s not much use when the car is covered in ice and I’m late for work.
Take it that’s a Disco 3 2.7 diesel.
Yup!
Really cant believe what I am reading …Man up the lot of yer !!! Wear a vest & get some stringy backed brown leather driving gloves off the 70s …■■■■■■■ !!

If I was meant to be permanently cold then I would have been born a bloody polar bear !!

Polar bears are not cold, on account of their luxurious fur coat.

I have the Webasto on mine and wish I could get it to work off a timer or remotely. A few owners have hacked it but I’m not prepared to go down that route and no garage is willing to do the job.
Plenty of help on the BMW forums though.
BMW e53 X5 i think that most of them have heaters fitted as standard,if you look under the bonnet you can see the heater.Ihave E70 X5 and although the heater option is in the settings and it will run the fan motor at the time i set it to come on,mine dosent have the night heater fitted, something to do with the cost of them…£1000 option!!!

2.0 tdi common rail engine I guess? My Exeo is the same and the four other tdi’s in my family too.
That said mine will warm up the cabin pretty quick but takes an age for the gauge to reach 90 degrees in the cold weather.
Official line from VW is that it’s perfectly normal and due to the increased thermal efficiency of the CR engines compared to the previous PD’s…and VW always tell the truth don’t they?
To be fair I’ve put 110,000 on mine now and it’s been the same from day one so doubt it’s anything to worry about.
Agree about the heated seats, especially on leather!

I have one in my van for if I ever have a night out, while it don’t make you sweat it keeps the chill away and I run if off a dedicated leisure battery on a split charge relay. So works for me …
