Hello Stevieboy
I have the same memory of Saturday afternoons at the railway in Mobberley. Saturday morning was spent at pops yard washing my dads old foden then into the café for some breakfast, then to the railway all afternoon. Happydays

Hiya i think Stuart Gibson drove that merc Hackneys.Stuart worked at ERF at one time. just thinking while we’re in Sandbach
has anyone got any photo,s of R O Jones lorries from Sandbach Jones run a hand full of ERF units. they was dark green with red chassis.
Cheers John

Maybe not the clearest of photographs , but there was another parked-up wagon blocking out the little amount of sunshine.
This Volvo FH and drawbar outfit looked the business , at Bentham Auction Mart recently.
Tomlinson Bros. must have been having a change from hauling hay and straw that day.
The 6 wheeler was carrying a cattle body which was formerly owned by E.C. Cadwalladr from near Chester.
The drawbar trailer was carrying a Williams`-built alloy cattle body.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Sorry about the quality of the above photos- scraping the barrel a bit!

Not strictly a Cheshire haulier but a Cheshire bodybuilder.

Yeap, both Thorneys, mate. I’ve always fancied a Trusty 8-wheeler but never had the cash or the space.

Couldn’t find the 6-wheeler Trusty, John, so I’ll have to wait until you post it. I did however find a load of other stuff that I had either forgotten about or didn’t know in the first place. Thanks for the pointer- fascinating stuff.

Quite surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that Howard Hackney drove that MERC himself in the 70’s, while all his drivers had ERF’s.
I worked on Lathams at Middlewich on the salt then, and the word was that old Fred was indeed a hard taskmaster. Having said that, the salt job was hard anyway, no pallets in them days, or very occasionally, usually it was all handball…20 tons of it!!
Don’t think many would like to do it nowadays.

I don’t notice any information , photo`s etc regarding J Leech of Crewe .

I worked at thomasons for 19 years
