how do you physically check the height of your wagon?
the trailer i had today had the body height but not the full height. i dont know how high the fifth wheel sits so how do you find out how high you are?
it wasnt a problem today, we do the same drops every day but it was very close in the cleveland centre in middlesbrough
alix776:
how do you think you would get the fifth wheel height measure from the bottom of the front axle to top of the wheel
Or, you could measure from the ground, up to the front edge of your trailer (which, with a slight turn of your unit, will be clear of mud wings or tanks). You will notice that the front edge of a trailer is normallyjust higher than its fifth wheel plate / king pin. Whether or not you adjust your measurement to allow for that is up to you. I wouldn’t bother, it would give you a bit more leeway.

I get the impression you seem to think that when the overall height is displayed on the front of the trailer it is of use to you? As you have stated you don’t know the height of the 5th-wheel it is of no use and you must be out on the road every day with no accurate knowledge as to your running height.

yet it still hasnt been fully answered after all these posts.
The very first reply you got on this thread answered your question fully. Hint: It is directly under your original post and was made by montana man. If that isn’t enough for you alix776 and Simon also took the time to point out the bleeding obvious to you.
scanny77:
what does that tell you?
It tells me you must be blind or stupid. No offence.
scanny77:
my arms arent 14’ apart so explain how you hold both ends of a measureing tape AN be able to read the distance
FFS, are you just being stupid for the sake of it now? Nobody can be this dumb and actually get through life in one piece can they? Your arms don’t need to be 14’ apart as you already know the height of the body. You only need to measure from the ground up to the start of the body, much less than 14’ and add the two together. Even if you are measuring the whole thing you don’t need arms 14’ apart as you can measure it in sections and add the results together or ask someone else to hold the other end of the tape. Here’s a little hint for you, if you ask a question on here spend a little time reading the answers as this has already been explained to you on this thread
scanny77:
the fifth wheel height is rarely shown
Which is where the tape measure comes in.
scanny77:
which is why i always add 6 inches to what it says on the trailer.
So you are out on the road not knowing the actual height of your vehicle, which is your responsibility to know. The overall height markings on trailers are not always accurate, I recently pulled a DHL trailer that said is was 4.12 heigh, it wasn’t it was 4.3. Just having the body height marked is a far more useful measurement than having the overall height marked.
