A lot of people out there have got car breakdown and recovery cover. I went to an Audi in somerset last night. The guy had a puncture and it was not able to be repaired on the roadside. No problem, I have got recovery cover, so take me to Teddington, london.
It turned out that he only had
10 MILES RECOVERY
After dropping the car in Teddington, He was £300.00 lighter in his bank account.
My advice
somerset bus driver:
I remember when cars had things called “spare wheels”!!! presumably this was one of those new fangled devices that comes without?!
I know BMW minis don’t have a spare wheel they have this tube thing that is supposed to temporarily re inflate the tyre. Ive got AA roadside and relay cover , never once had the need for it -costs about a 100 quid too. But sods law if you cancelled it you’d break down the very next day

I thought my Mini had no spare as it has run flat tyres so was surprised to find it has a spare too. Run flats are a godsend. As for breakdown cover if you want recovery you have to ask for it. It’s saved me a fortune in the past.

CHECK WHAT COVER YOU HAVE FOR YOUR CAR
It might save you a for pennies
Would probably have been a lot cheaper to upgrade his cover to include RELAY on the spot.
Once accidentally left a little fridge plugged in, in my car for 2 days. Flat as a pancake
Pushed it out, backed the unit up to it, put my rope out of the car on it, grabbed another driver to drive the unit, 20 metres down the yard I was good to go.

I don’t like to be rude but isn’t that called a “bump start”? Hardly a novel idea really. I had a car once that I always had to park on a hill as that was the only way I could get it going
The low basic roadside breakdown cover normally qualifies you a tow or vehicle lift to next place of safety or up to 10 miles (dependant on your policy),
extended cover comes at different levels for different rates.
Well worth the extra cost to cover you for 12 months to ensure it gets you home or to point of destination.
Now I shouldnt be telling you this bit as it does me out of a days pay but here goes ,
Having full relay is better than paying £2.00 a mile or thereafter of a 10 mile limit.
Considering the majority of all insurance companies now have a facility also to add breakdown cover to a policy/member at a low rate extra charge,
there is no excuse for not considering it, or to even going with another breakdown service.
Ya makes ya choice if dont have breakdown cover,
but it will cost you dearly on the occasion you do breakdown and have no cover.
If you dont have breakdown cover , well , ker chiiiinnnngggggg get yer wallet out son !!! youve just made my day
As for the cars that now come with a can of spray for a flat tyre — waste of time if the hole is more than a pin prick or the sidewall is shredded or blown out.

No, a bump start is when you get pushed rather than pulled off.
This would be called a tow start.
Note these prices are for basic cover only, need to look inside each one to add aditional services such as relay.
Have had mine with the Guild of Experienced Motorists or Motoring Assist i believe they call themselves now, for about 30 years. Used it once! A Fiesta i’d bought in Carlise auctions decided to splutter to a halt on the M6 on the way home. Local garage came out, lifted it to worksholp, put a set of points & a condensor in it (for which I paid) and was good to go. Now about £44 a year for full cover. (UK only).
Knew someone who had it was about £35 a year, if your car breakdowns you get a company to uplift it or tow it, pay for it then then you put a claim in and they refund you within 10 days.
They used it twice and never any probs, always a bit skeptical tho because of the low price.

It’s cheap because not everyone remembers to put in a claim within the time window.
I used to have full blown everything but Euro RAC or AA membership. Gave that up around 2003 and to be honest, never been stranded* anywhere (all cars over 25 years old too). One day I’ll get a bill, but I’m saving every year until I do. It’s called self-insurance.
*Issues either didn’t immobilise the vehicle and I was able to carry on or was easily fixable at the roadside.

Quite true that you can upgrade on the spot, however, they know that you’re between a rock and a hard place so they’ll charge accordingly. Also, you’ll only get the first 50 odd miles free and then it’s about 2 squid a mile (charged both ways)
Another one to bear in mind is that the big clubs (AA, RAC etc) DO NOT cover you for recovery after an rta or a mis-fuelling. You’ll have to stand the recovery cost in the event of a not your fault crash and reclaim it through the other partys’ insurance.
Slightly o/t but a few months ago I recovered a van back to Morpeth and as I was returning to Grantham in the only truck without a tracker I was looking for a “victim” to supplement my meagre income, when I spotted a potential in a lay by just north of Newcastle. He was sat there bonnet up and 4 ways going as I pulled in. A quick check reveals cam belt snapped so he’s going nowhere quick. Me “have you got breakdown cover mate?” Victim “no mate, I’m screwed aint I?” Me “not neccessarily, where are you going?” Victim “A place called Newark mate” Me “well it’s your lucky day, gimme £40 and I’ll drop you at your door” Victim “… that, I aint paying £40 to get back to…”
Didn’t hear the rest of his sentence cos I was already back in the truck and pulling away!

that guy sounds like a grade a chump, 40 quid to get from newcastle to grantham is a bargain.especially when your cambelt has gave up the ghost
