Well its nothing new about pratts working for less money, I remember being told when I first started driving wagons in the 50s That there was a firm on Tyneside that would give a new motor to a driver if he would work for 10 Bob a week less than his mates, Regards Larry.

This applies to hauliers and drivers.Some hauliers can’t work their costs out and knacker the job by doing it to cheap.Drivers as you say Larry will work for less money,just to have a new wagon,which doesn’t pay their bills.

Totally, but if you are unemployed and turn the job down they now take away your benefits !
Get out of the EU, and then no more cheap labour from eastern europe and a skills shortage…So just perhaps the rate will be higher.
But thats only an opinion.
On the other side of the coin ,theres a reason why they are advertising and still will be in weeks to come ,some local firms near me are always advertising for drivers there used to be a saying ,good jobs are never advertised.Theres very few jobs up here now mainly agency only ,the last company i worked for relocated and made all their drivers redundant only to then use agency only drivers thats the road they seem to be going down now ,they save on NI contributions,holiday pay and if they want shut of a driver its so much easier

There was a spread recently in one of the truck mags about there smart trucks. I would think you would struggle to find a driver to look after it paying that.
it just makes me mad that the job i love is going down the pan. i now am a carpenter / kitchen fitter as i turned my hobby into a profession 10 years ago and have never looked back (except with rose tinted glasses!) i can earn in excess of 30k . i am still a trucker at heart as i did it for 26 years but i have seen uk based delivery drivers coming down the 7.5T roads with a 44Tonner a sat nav and an english phrase book and getting stuck. god help them.

it is the "job " centres encouraging these low wage jobs , they don’t care so long as some mug will work for next to nowt . a neighbours daughter who is profoundly deaf from birth and suffers from spinal stenosis ( crumbling discs and trapped nerves ) has had her money stopped because she had to refuse the job they offered her , a hotel receptionist . they ignored the fact that she can’t hear anything on a phone . the lunatics are truly running the asylum !!
