Chardging my laptop

i’ve just brought a 300w inverter to power my laptop, it works fine in my car but in the truck it gives out a tone and a warning light does anyone know why?

try switching the lights on the truck on and then see if the light and buzzer come on, if it does not its because there is too much power going through the socket!

Make sure its not plugged into a 24v socket.

I agree, any inverter I’ve ever used has done this when plugged into the wrong socket.

if it,s plug into the 12v plug probly the dropper is,nt big enough what truck is it

just been back to maplins and we think it may be because i ran in from the same socket as my 12v fridge, they said to try it with the fridge turned off if not take it back

thats what happened with mine when i used a double socket, plugged it in on its on and it was fine

seems to work fine now! i’m just glad i didn’t have the receipt with me or i’d have bought a more expensive 24v inverter!!!

where did ya bring it to?

Those truck droppers usually only put out between 10-15A. If you’re running approx 6A for your cool box and plug in that inverter it’ll overload the dropper. When inverters switch on they charge to full capacity so it draws max amps. If you’re already using it for the box then you’re not going to get enough draw from it.

Try this;

Plug in inverter on it’s own and switch it on with nothing plugged into it. When it’s all charged and green light is on, plug the fridge in too and it should probably work. Probably end up blowing the fuse in the dropper if you try to run anything off the inverter though…
