Was picking a load up on Saturday XPO Haydock got it local stuff went back for a second load, informed guys on desk I’d be there for hours, just go get it, OK. After 4 hours called in 5 hours called in 6 hours called in. Bearing in mind it was a local drop 7 miles away, finally night shift came on drop the trailer, happily. Spoke to a guy next bay, he’d been on card since 2am it was now 1930 he’d arrived at 0700, we are definitely going back to the 90s,lack off warehouse staff lack off drivers an lack of any point to go out an do a job that wrecks you
As they say you can’t make this up, this is reality drivers on bays Well over there time.
Who pays the price the driver as always. I’d love to say this is a one off but nah last few months I’ve experienced more disorder and system malfunction I’ve seen in 38 years. Can’t see it getting better. Supply chain is a delicate vessel that’s the problem 24 hr supply 30 points of contact for one load, one hiccup job is knackered, having a few troubles with NHS rdcs at moment
Sorry why would you break the law and face prosecution? If my hours are up I pull out trailer or not not bothered , if they ever refused to give back keys - they never have cos I speak to people with respect- then the police would be called, and at the least id have a signed tacho printout. No excuse whatsoever

It wasn’t me breaking the law
And you miss the point my friend its chaos out there at the moment. I gave one example
Poor/weak management coupled with staff furloughed gives the likes of XPO an excuse to cover their ineptitude on a daily basis
I was reading another operators cursing of an XPO rival [green/white/red] yesterday on LinkedIn who had been on their site all day, and this site was
nt too far from Haydock IIRC…must be something in the water
Can’t say as I’ve noticed any difference.
I had dealings with a DHL site over the weekend, where for the last 6 months one Polish bird has run the operation like clockwork, no messing about, everything loaded pretty much on time ect
This weekend, chaos & then some…the management were back on the case, she had three assistants and a “suit” in the office basically getting in her way, and to compensate the budget for the extra staff in the office [which she did`nt need], they laid off some of the loaders, so you had trucks backing up & drivers getting vexed…how do these clowns get into these positions of power #pathetic

They go to university and get a business degree which interestingly no successful businessman you’ll have ever heard of has and one in particular who rolls his eyes at the mere mention of them as a measure of competence by an apprentice candidate.

Something similar to being a “Mason” then, but for business ?
If the guy on the next bay was on a 15 hour duty then legally he can work until 17.00 , why the hell was he still working at 19.30 and not pulled out , being held against your will or agreement is kidnapping so the police would be called.
Without sounding pedantic technically he should have been offered a hot meal or access to facilities or at least get a shower or leave site for a walk.

Then you woke up Toby…
The police would`nt come out unless there were shotguns involved
Or if the driver was wearing a Niqab or Burqa , then six 4x4 BMW’s with armed police would have turned up as we live in a woke society and political correctness with the risk of being sued if we upset peoples feelings.
Reference Piers Morgan sacked for upsetting Meghan.
At the very least the goods in manager could have chalked off his wheels .
If you are over 60 you can self classify as a vulnerable adult ,then the police just might show up.
07hr00 to 19hr30?
That’s over 11hrs, so just call it a daily rest period.

He put us card in at 02.00 am .
Dont blame Brexit .Its just nonsense from firms .I had a collection at XPO Tamworth export 40ft container. It took 10 hours to load .I had to spend another hour waiting for paperwork.Smaller companies are efficient .You dont wait forever
Remainer-run firms are just not geared up for a strong economic upswing right now…
You see it at the custom built new depot… Everything nice, new and shiny, including the staff…
There simply ain’t enough of them though!
Trucks stringing down the street, taking over an hour to process each one…
“Not enough staff” - and yet there’s plenty of people milling about, UNITE written on their high vis…
Are they not there to work, or just being overally cautious about Covid?
“Resentful that they are now off furlough, and back to work…”
?
