Channel 5 television seeks driver

Do you have strong views on immigration? Channel 5 television is making a documentary on illegal immigration. As part of this we would like to film what it is like for a truck driver to come through Calais and then into the UK. We want to take this journey with the driver and film as he talks about any experiences he has had with illegals, the pressure immigration puts on drivers and the potential costs.

The filming should only take a few hours and we can make a payment for expenses. We would like to film in the next few weeks and the programme will be broadcast in May.

Please email Matthew Chapman at matthew.chapman@channel5.com

I’m available to play one of the illegals. £150/day, not fussy what truck I hide in although it’s £200 for an Iveco.

Get UKIP to load a fridge trailer up with them, and follow the journey from the uk to europe, would probably get more support…lol

Will the programme be looking at the unfairness towards drivers and hauliers where they get fined for every illegal caught when the driver has done all that is reasonably possible to prevent such?

I have seen the UK BORDER FORCE programmes where illegals could only be detected with specialist equipment

Or £350 if it’s a Stobart Trailer

I wonder why Matthew is asking for a driver with ‘strong views on immigration’?

Why not just ask for a driver who is a Calais regular and can point out what the practical problems are?

Perhaps Matthew is hoping to get a racist on the programme.

I hope Matthew will ask the Government why it fines victims of crime (drivers and hauliers who have vehicles and loads damaged by stowaways) and never prosecutes the stowaways for criminal damage?

Why aren’t the stowaways arrested and tried for breaking into vehicles, or extradited to France to stand trial if that’s where the crimes were committed?

If anyone who WASN’T an illegal immigrant was caught breaking into a truck they would be arrested and charged…so why is in this case the victim punished and the perpetrator rewarded with a place in the UK?

Go on Matthew, ask the Government that!

GasGas,

Sorry mate, but I’m not seeing where Matthew asked that question.

It’s the first thing he says.

These are the questions that should be raised along with a few others, But the driver is seen as a cash cow by the government, and none of these programes on TV ever have allowed the driver POV in full, as it may not be PC
The current system is not fit for purpose, and the majority of those found stowed away are never deported which is a even biggger fail by government and UKBA

Phone Jeremy vine off radio2 he will give you the number of guy Garvey(think that’s his name).
He’s a proper trucker, right wing, huge beer belly, string vest(egg stained), smokes like a trooper, and of course come from oop north.

Saves you the money on paying a real actor!

JD’s a Calais regular.

Ken.

Yes…And so are lots of others!

He was investigating a company who were under the microscope of the Serious Fraud Squad. He did not offer any cash inducements nor did what he did amount to an offer of employment but merely an implication that he would try to help someone find work if he became unemployed but couldn’t offer cast iron guarantees. He did however breach the BBC guidelines on this and tendered his resignation. Harlequin, the company involved, threatened all sorts of repercussions including reporting the matter to the police but as far as I can see, it came to nothing. Harlequin, on the other hand are still under investigation by Essex Police and the Serious Fraud Office.
Mr Chapman appears to have done some interesting and valuable work which saw him pick up a Bafta award in 2011 and has a good track record in investigative journalism. My main reservation about his latest project is that it’s for Channel 5! The man deserves better!
