Changing units with digi card ,!,

There are over 40 vehicles where I am working at the moment , it is a regular occurance
that when you return there is another vehicle loaded ready for me. What is the law on changing vehicles where a digi is required ? I have noticed that if I try to put digi card in another truck and the time is out slightly the card will keep ejecting !!,

It shouldn’t be doing that, the VU shouldn’t reject the card simply because the time is out by a few minutes.

take card out checking time . wait a few mins and insert card making sure its past the time you ejected ie

Removed 13.00 inserted new veh 13.05 you should be good to go , just remember to allow xyz for pre trip checks

And don’t forget to do manual entries for those missing minutes, but I can’t think why your card is being ejected.

it is possible to adjust the time on a digi-tach, but only by +/- 2 minutes. If it’s out by more than this, I would put in a defect for it.

Why would you need to change the time ? Can’t remember exactly but it can only be changed a minute or so every week.

They don’t keep perfect time and can drift away from real time by a couple of minutes in between two-yearly inspections.

The unit can be changed by the driver by 1 minute per week. Any more has to be done at a calibration centre.
The only reason your card would be ejected is if unit 2’s time is behind unit 1. Eject card unit 1 at 13:00 and when inserting into unit 2 the time is 12:58. That would cause a conflict.

That happened to me about 4 yrs ago but it didn’t eject the card just had a spike on the print out for a few years reminding me what happened.

My tacho drops seconds all the while (either that or my watch is goosed)

Correct. Easy way is to write down the time displayed on the VDU of vehicle (a), jump into vehicle (b), make sure the time passes (a) by one minute, insert card, do manual entry for missing minute and then woosh to next job.

The card still won’t be ejected, it’ll just cause a conflict and be flagged up as an infringement (although a technicality!) when downloaded.
