Changing tyre size

When changing tyre sizes what do you have to do paperwork or test wise its got 315 70 22.5 and I want to change them to 295 80 22.5

I’ve just got one done, I changed the tyres, got the tacho re calibrated, filled in the form, sent it off and 3 and a half months later the new plating certs arrived.

A 315/70 will have a higher load rating than a 295/80 so make sure your axle weight is ok for 295/80 tyres otherwise you’ll have to down rate the axle too.

Why go from a 315/70 to a 295/80? Most fleets are moving from 295’s to 315’s.

This Tgx i have at the minute has 315/80 fitted , bloody things look like tractor tyres, they seem way to big

Don’t you have to get the tacho re-calibrated as well if you change the tyre size?

Yes, or you may not want to rush into it if you want to get to places quicker depending which way you’re going on size.

You will have to do paperwork as suggested but, some 315/70R22.5 are stamped with the same 152/148 load rating as 295/80R22.5.If they are stamped 154/150 they have a higher load rating of 7500kgs (295/80 = 7100kgs).If they are stamped 156/150 it goes up to 8000kgs so they might want checking weight wise first.

As for diameter difference 295/80 are going to be 1050-1070mm dependent on pattern,315/70 are going to be 1030 to 1040mm dependent on pattern.
