You’ll have to open up in Witney, Steve; I see Five Oceans have moved out of their unit next to the bus garage.

If i was you i would leave for another job, after 14 years of whinging, moaning, whining about others not to mention the cycling to work and being back home by 5 pm 5 days a week you must be worn out!
It sounds to me like heavy industry or quarrying is not realy your barrow and you only stay in the job due to the fact it’s not hard work, also for the short working hrs and as your dad works at the same firm!
I would try contacting your local council for a job because if they are owt like the council in our area you will fit right in
you never know your luck as oxfordshire county council might have a shortage of lgv/machine drivers that have lost touch with the real world.

He wouldn’t have lasted long at Ballidon Quarry with Tommy Wibberley organizing him would he Moose? No ‘office hours’ there, not even in the office!!! I guess things are a lot different in the quarrying world now though?

It does seem a good job that you have, Tilcon used to be like that and to get set on there you joined a waiting list. I would have thought that Smiths would be much the same today, local tipper driver’s must would be envious of your set up as I’m sure that nothing else in the area would be as good.

What if the job you’re doing though isn’t the job you like doing?

ask for a pay rise? Ask for four on four off! Four in the quarry, four in the truck! If you ain’t happy, LEAVE on good terms because you never know if you’ll need them in the near future! HTH :grimacing: :grimacing:

i would have to agree with this ^^^^^

Windrush, you’re right, all our pits run “office hours” so’s not to upset the nimbys with gravel drives. I’m paid 7-5 but work about 6.30-4.30 so I’m loading just before 7. Interesting cycle ride home tonight as the road’s flooded.

Yes were some some quarries around here that didn’t kick in until 6 or 7am due to noise, most have closed now. We were lucky as we could start at 5 am if we had a long run with stone or a tarmac depot to Brum etc and then you stood a decent chance of getting a good day in and still be home by 6 pm unless you were still sat at the side of the A1 at 7 pm waiting to tip tarmac! Those days are long gone now of course, hardly enough work to fill half a day.

Pete.

I’d stick with it mate no disrespect but I don’t think you would last five minutes with a pirate firm.
Sounds like a good gig I bet its a firm where drivers can’t get on with it and last a couple of months or they been there years.
Last few years has been tough in the construction game and your still there. You never know a bit of holiday cover may come up and worm back in that way.
I know how you feel I’ve helped out at places I’ve worked on 360s and the shovel and its a boring old job at times when your used to been out and about.

Can’t remember who said about making suggestions, but I suggested the three shovel drivers have separate breaks so there’s always two machines working instead of one. Not sure if the others like being split up in the mess room though!
I think something could be happening though re me going back on the road so I’ll let them get on with it with Christmas coming etc, then it’s nearly 2 weeks shutdown.
