Just sent mine off for renewal(over 65) not sure if I will receive the new version.

Just applied for a new licence as I needed my photo renewed, I’ll let you know what I get back

Age limit for PSV’s increased to 24.

Interesting.

it’s 21 IF you work within 50km. So it’s still ok for bus companies to employ young drivers but not coach companies!

I would NEVER have started doing PCV work if I had to drive busses from the start (21). So now the coaching industry which has been struggling to recruit younger drivers can’t because there won’t be any young drivers, this shakes my pigs!

No but the younger drivers can build up experience on slower buses that stop all the time before doing long coach journeys, which is good.

As for the age of 24, it would be good for Class 1 to be 24 or 25. That way younger drivers could gain experience step by step from 21. I passed my HGV at 21 and when I look back now I think it probably was a lot to go straight to class 1 at that age.

Maybe so, but you also had a 21-year-old’s enthusiasm and energy. Raising the entry age limit would be counter-productive; gives potential drivers the chance to do six or seven years of other jobs which probably pay the same if not better than driving a truck. Once they get settled into that, they’re unlikely to change.

Of course, if this did happen it would mean that a shortage of drivers would be created which would mean we’d all be instantly on two grand a week…
