On recent trip back from Spain I had to drive through my least favourite part of the country, the south east,Essex,Sussex, etc.this time north from Brighton on the M23.It seems that now all traffic entering dual carriageways has priority over traffic on the motorway. Also it’s compulsory to drive at 30 mph for 200 yards before accelerating.I had 2 fingers and horn blowing from an SUV driver, naturally, for not moving over even though I had another car alongside me.
Why also do so many car drivers only use lanes 3 or 4 of multi lane carriageways even in the small hours?
As for middle lane hogs?
I did see one police patrol car sitting in the shade of the trees on a hot saturday afternoon.
They do it because there theroy is if I get in the middle lane of a motorway I don’t have to worry aboout cars joining and cars can use lane 3 if they want to overtake me.
It’s ok though because every so often there’s signs saying keep left unless overtaking. Don’t hog the middle lane.
Wether they can read the messages is another matter.
The standard of driving has gone downhill over the years.
Not enough officers to stop them is part the problem
Yes it was mentioned on the radio sometime ago - if you are doing something illegal driving and it isn’t speeding or going through a red light camera you’ll probably get away with it: lane hogging, mobile phone use, crossing solid white lines due to last second exiting, traffic holdup? just use hardshoulder,
They also don’t care or are oblivious how their actions impact others and the flow of traffic. good example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePc1EaqQkAc - not excusing the hgv drivers actions btw. The merge could be put down to a mistake but it’s unreal how the driver of the car did not realise how easily he could have avoided everything else.
I have heard from older drivers, both HGV and car - that it’s gone downhill because people just don’t care about being a good driver and years ago it was something you took some pride in. Now its just a boring necessity hence the constant messing with phones, watching films while driving etc. and putting in as little effort as possible.
