Ok, so you’re in an artic and you effectively on private ground. What is to stop you pulling the card, then dropping the trailer (with permission) and parking in another corner of the yard. When they’re done with the unload they can shunt it off the bay for you to collect after your 9 hours rest is up, and you can get some peace in the corner of the yard.
I would assume that you are referring to duty time rather than driving time though, for the obvious reasons.
If you can’t move the trailer/tractor then how about getting your keys back, pulling the red airline after dropping the legs too and then getting your head down in the bunk then. As for leaving bays empty next to you, it’s not like you get that service at MSAs or other places you park?
Also, the chalk wouldn’t work. This is a nation of rain afterall
I had to chuckle to myself last night as I actually think I saw this exact situation with someone out of time on a bay! Was on the ind est at Hemswell Cliff near Gainsborough. Although it wasn’t technically cones or chalk there was a wagon backed in a bay with a big steel barrier plonked in front if him and the curtains were drawn round. Could it actually be true what all these bull ■■■■■■■■ are saying?!
I know for a fact that this is not a MMTM story, because it once happened to me!
When i was in the SAS, i was given a special mission, can’t give you full details otherwise i will have to kill you all, but It was a very dangerous, high security load that was being transported from Germany back to the UK.On the way through Belgium we had a puncture, due to the load weighing 77 tonnes on a 40 ton rig, by me hanging beef from the roof while carrying the special load on the trailer bed. And as a result, we missed our ferry by about 1 minute. Yes, you’ve guessed it, it was the herald of free enterprise.
We eventually reached our destination, a top secret RDC somewhere in the UK. By the time we had sat on a bay for 3 hours, i was getting short on time…well, i don’t need to tell you lads what happened after that, the only twist in the story, is that when one of the shunters continued to drive around the yard, despite being told by the police to stop, i had to get out of my bunk, leap from the trailer roof onto the moving shunter, and slit his throat before he knew anything about it. Well, i can tell you, i didn’t have any more trouble sleeping THAT night!
I actually had a bloke tell me today something similar.
Asda at Wigan(somewhere up that way if not an RDC at Wigan?)
a T.D.S Hatswell driver got there with 3 hrs left o his 15hrs, he told the goods in this, then when he had 2 mins left they told him to put himself on a bay, he backed on said bay, went in goods in, told them his 15hrs were up, when he got tipped he told them he wasnt moving as his hours were up, Asda got the police to turn up, they sided with the driver, got the lorries either side of him to go onto other bays to give him some quiet, no pink chalk, just lots of cones around his motor, then around 02:00am, the shunter started driving around the front of his motor.
The TDS driver rang the phone of the copper who originally sorted the problem out in the first place (as he gave his mobile number to the driver and said any problems give me a ring) The copper turned up and took the shift manager down the police station for 1.5hrs, then bought him back. the driver had 11hr break, when he got up, the shift manager told him when he wanted his breakfast he would ■■■■■■ him to the staff canteen and whatever he wanted was on the house.
He was an old-ish bloke, late 50s early 60s and he came out with all this crap. what a nugget.
I informed goods in at Tesco Lichfield that I only had 2 hours duty time left and they told me to ‘do one’ and rebook for the following morning. Eventually after customer services intervened (Stobart) I dropped trailer and picked up empty next morning. I did tell them that I needed 1 hour turnround or I wouldn’t even put it on a bay, why should goods in etc be made responsible for bad planning
Am I missing something but isnt Aldi self tip
Anyway nearly had a similar situation at Tesco Hinkley, had an hour to spare on a 15 so informed the office of this, now I dont know who they spoke to but I was in and out and parked up bang on 15 hours
Chalk is not used now ,I had a laser beam put around my truck and told than if the beam were cut it would activate a court order and imediate arest and imprisonment, needles to say I didnot even poke my haed out of the window.

That’s what should happen. If RDC’s miss their booking, they should be penalised with the expense and inconvenience of dealing with the problem they themselves created.
How’s this for a rumor, if rumor it is.
RDC’s charging £1,000 for late arrivals?
